Herbert Leroy Jones was born in Centennial, South Dakota, in 1881, to Thomas L .Jones and Lola Josephine Clarkson. His father died in in 1892 and his mother married Charles J. Snyder. Herbert came with the family to Miles City . Charles operated a way station for the Deadwood Stage called Stone Shack according to family history.
Herbert was a horse trainer at Ft. Keogh. In 1910, he married Tessie Moffatt. They had four children, Harold, Laura, Virginia and David.
Herbert died in 1929, several months before their last child, David, was born. He is buried in the Custer County Cemetery.
After his death, Tessie married Patrick McGuire. The had one child, Patrick. They lived at a ranch on the Tongue River. After many years, they moved to Miles City.
Patrick McGuire died in 1954.
Tessie McGuire died in 1978 and is buried in the Custer County Cemetery.
