By Mabel Brown
Mabel Umhoefer was born to John and Lydia Umhoefer. She grew up in Miles City and obtained her schooling here, but came to Miles City with her parents by Milwaukee Railroad at the age of two.
Mabel married Charles Brown May 7, 1946, at Miles City. Charles was a rancher at Terry and they made their home there.
Charles was the son of William and Anna Helen (William) Brown. They came to Montana in 1911 and settled in the Mildred area. They lived here on a ranch until 1945, when they moved into Terry to live their remaining years. Both are buried in Terry. In 1946 Charles Brown sold the ranch to his brother, Arthur, who still lives there. Charles then went into Power Line Construction business. III health forced him to retire in 1962 and they moved to Miles City two years ago. Mabel is now taking care of her mother as Charles passed away in February, 1970.
John Umhoefer was a Milwaukee railroad passenger engineer from 1908 until 1931 when ill health forced him to retire.
