John, Louis and Fred Bircher's parents died when the children were young. They were born on the ranch 16 miles east of Miles City and lived there all their lives. Fred was born in 1886, the second child of Emil and Mary Bircher. Louis was born in 1887; John was born in 1891.
These boys pioneered in the Pine Hills on a cattle ranch and rode on the roundups. They managed the ranch and provided for a family of nine. They attended the Pine Hill School.
The family story is told in their parent's story.
