Daniel Gaskill was born in Nebraska. He took up the life of a cowboy, and rode into Montana from Nebraska in 1893. He first went to work in this country on the Charlie Daly ranch, staying there for two years.
Then he took up squatter's rights on what is now Gaskill Creek. He lived there for three or four years. He built up a small herd of cattle and took his first shipment to Chicago himself. This land later belonged to Alexander Campbell. In about 1907 Dan Gaskill moved to Big Pumpkin Creek, where he proceeded to develop a large ranch througout the years; so his story is continued in that section of this book.
