My parents were Lorin and Adele Gilman. I was born Feb. 3, 1905, at Ekalaka, Mont., being one of a family of eight children.
I attended the O'Fallon Creek School near our home. During my childhood I helped with the ranch work at home and later I was employed by the T N Ranch outfit on Powder River, also by Clyde Brown and Jimmy Drake. I worked out until I had accumulated a few cattle.
I married Sylvia M. Brown Nov. 25, 1928, at Miles City, Mont. She was the daughter of Clyde and Nora Brown, ranchers on Powder River. There were four children in the Brown family, Sylvia, Clyde (Bud), Harold (Dut) and Anna (Tweed) now Mrs. Harold Stallard.
When we were first married I leased the old Hod Crosby place on Trail Creek and lived there for five years before moving to the Jimmy Drake place on Powder River which I leased for five years. I then bought the old Dan Bowman place on Sheep Creek and lived there until the spring of 1948 at which time I bought the old Ben Meyers place, at that time owned by Charley Wiley. After Mr. Wiley's death, we bought his place on Powder River, and have lived and ranched here for over 22 years.
