This specimen was submitted for identification from the Custer County Extension agent. The specimen was collected in Miles City from a population growing in a lawn. The glabrate green leaves and large pistillate bracts (well over 2 mm long) which have a thick spongy layer of cells in which the fruit is embedded combine to distinguish this species. This specimen had stems upwards of 0.5 m long. They were heavy with clusters of fruits and subtending bracts and thus were not able to stand upright.
