I had to steal this from the Phillies thread. My guess is Mule didn't see it.

According to http://www.baseball-reference.com, National League pitchers posted a combined average of .140 (666 hits in 4,756 AB) in 2008. As a whole, the National League batted .260.

American League pitchers batted .114 last season (31-for-273), compared to a .264 average for all AL batters.

So far this season, National League pitchers are again batting .140 (414-for-2,957) and the league as a whole has posted an average of .258.

AL pitchers have batted .096 (25-for-272) so far this season, compared with a .264 average for the entire league.

So ...

It's true that NL pitchers are better than their AL counterparts in terms of productivity at the plate.

But that doesn't really change the fact that the debate over which league's pitchers are the best hitters is equivalent to arguing over which is the better car, a 1971 Ford Pinto or a 1978 AMC Pacer. Sure, they have their fans, but both vehicles basically suck.

BUT WE'VE GOT TO KEEP BASEBALL PURE!!!

Brian:

Your boy Youk is a punk.

He's about as effective as Robin Ventura in a basebrawl. Or maybe Don Zimmer.

How is Youkilis the punk? He gets hit All. The. Time.

Tazawa clearly wasn't trying to hit Cabrera. It was a pitch that got away from him and hit Cabrera in the hand. There was no need for Porcello to retaliate for anything. Dumb rookie move.

Porcello's the rookie punk trying to make a name for himself. Youkilis should have made a better tackle (and it was a nice hip toss on Porcello's part - I'll give him kudos for that).

I'm glad that it got the Sox fired up. They needed it.

Youk fights like a girl. (no offense to any girls out there who probably can fight better than Youk).

Throw a punch, not your helmet.

I can forgive a lot of things that are in the heat of the moment. Not all things, of course, but a lot. At least he's passionate about what he does. He cares. I respect that.

Fisticuffs at the wicket. What will the Queen say?

Yowza, just saw the replay. Youk could use some lessons on shooting low.

And you know what I didn't know? That Pedro came up with the Dodgers.

Buck:

No kidding.

Youk also got plunked on Monday night by Edwin Jackson, but surprisingly didn't charge the mound because he would have gotten his butt kicked.

But the next night Youk, the big man, charges a 20 year-old kid and ends up on his back anyway.

Maybe he can appeal and say he was pretending. Did you see the Prince Fielder thing? It was filmed like a Monday Night Raw.

Not sure what Prince was thinking about there. Not so bright.

Is Prince still a vegetarian? I guess pastries qualify as vegetarian, so maybe so.

I think he is supposed to be, he must get kickass genetically modified vegetables.

Pedro is about to start. I love me some Pedro (that's horrible - Pedro is Spanish), but he's totally, totally on the list.

Me gusta Pedro?

Actually, it would be "Me enchanta Pedro"

And you know what I didn't know? That Pedro came up with the Dodgers.

He played in Great Falls in 1990.

'El Duro' is - and always will be - my favorite pitcher. I'm glad he did well tonight in his Phillies debut. At his peak with the Red Sox, he was the best pitcher I've ever seen in my lifetime.
