Curt Martin former Miles City native passed away July 6th. Curt will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Russell "Curt" Martin, 50, of Helena passed away July 6, 2009 due to heart disease at St. Vincent hospital in Billings. Curt was born Aug. 24, 1958 in Miles City to Russ ad Peggy Martin. He was the oldest of four children. Curt attended grade school and high school in Miles City and graduated from Custer County High School in 1976. While in school Curt lettered in football and was a member of the National Honor Society.
He went on to attend Motnana State University where he got his Bachelor's degree in Political Science and received a Master's degree in Public Administration. Curt received both degrees in four years while working and raising a family.
After graduating from Montana State, Curt started an internship with E.Q.C. He went on to work for the State DNRC and has done so in different capacities in Helena and Missoula for over 25 years. Curt loved sports, especially football and the Minnesota Vikings. He also enjoyed fishing and camping and spending time with his sons and grandson. He was invovled with many activities with his family including coaching soccer and being a scout leader. Curt was a kind and caring man who left behind many friends in his short time on this Earth.
He was always there to lend a helping hand to those who needed it.
He will be loved and missed very much. Curt is survived by his parents, Russ and Peggy Martin of Miles City; his brother, Doug (Novelene) Martin, sister Naomi (Scott) Rhodes, and sister Nan Wade; his children Aaron Martin, John (Mindy) Martin, Tim Martin; his grandson Dillon Martin; and several nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his former wife and lifelong friend Tanna Martin. Curt was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Russ and Vera Martin and his maternal grandparents James and Alice Jacobson.
A memorial service celebrating Curt's life will be held at Retz Funeral Home in Helena on Friday, July 10, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. with inurnment service in the columbarium niche at Forestvale Cemetery to follow.
Memorials in Curt's name are suggested to American Heart Association or to the Diabetes Foundation.

I was stunned to see the obituary in today's Star. We were in high school together and he was just a plain nice guy. Good egg, as my mom would say. Very sad.
