See my post of 1-22-09

Had those buildings been retrofitted as per my suggestion, we might not have another gaping hole in the center of downtown Miles City.

Now for all the flamers, detractors, xenophobes, know-nothings, and assorted drunks it is your turn to once again assail and insult me.

Not to rain on your fire sprinklers parade, but...

What was the point in bringing this up? What's done is done, there's no reason to play the "I-Told-You-So" game....

How about to put sprinklers in the buildings that are left, so that we don't have to play the "I told you so game".

Bet it feels good to be right, doesn't it, Lee?

I think every guardrail on Montana interstates should be made of marshmellows. It would greatly cut down on traffic fatalities. Shouldn't cost that much. Maybe several million dollars. And now, when we have another traffic death in Montana, possibly before I am done posting this, I am a man of great vision and wisdom.
Come on Lee. How much of your money did you pledge to fit every old building in Miles City with sprinklers? Lets not stop there. Lots of old buildings in Bozeman and Whitehall that need sprinklers too. Pony up big guy. And dig deep. It's an old state.
Billions of dollars could not prevent this problem. The cost to fit these old structures with sprinkler systems is massive. Very few business owners have the kind of scratch to make that happen. Plus, these old buildings are historic. You can't just hang a bunch of pipe from the overhead and call it good.
But yes indeed. You were right.

Sprinklers certainly would have made the difference but I got to believe the cost to retrofit those into the main street businesses would be cost prohibitive for most businesses. More than likely it was much more cost effective to pay higher insurance premiums and hope.

Does anyone know what the total cost of the fire was, including the structures, contents, cost to put it out, etc?

I reckon I fit in the "assorted drunks" category, yet I have nothing to add to this conversation.

Have a nice day, everyone! Enjoy the sunshine!

Good point, Matt. I've suggested on here before that cars should be made out of styrofoam. I'm nearly almost completely certain that the marshmallow/styrofoam combination would save AT LEAST three lives annually.

Let's get cracking on the how-to's of this peanut-butter-meets-chocolate/chocolate-meets-peanut-butter idea.
