She came from Planet Claire
I knew she came from there
She drove a Plymouth Satellite
Faster than the speed of light

Planet Claire has pink air
All the trees are red
No one ever dies there
No one has a head

Rose, I think it's a pretty safe bet that we all have ties to Miles City. I was raised there, couldn't wait to leave and left, and only came to truly appreciate it from afar.

Where am I from?

I was born and spent the first 28 years of my life in Miles City. From there I moved to Manhattan, KS to finish school at K-State. I lived there 2.5 years. From there I moved to York, NE and lived there 3 years. Moved from York to Gallup, NM. I lived in Gallup for 6 years. From Gallup I moved to Hastings, NE where I lived for 3.5 years. I moved from Hastings, NE to Gillette, WY last May.

IF I move again it will be to Flagstaff, AZ so I can drink Guiness beer and wait for the celestial convergance atop some tall red butte and spend some time in the desert. From a botanical point of view there is no place more beautiful than the desert in the spring when all of the plants bloom.

Richard-
If you spent 6 years in Gallup that explains a lot!

As for me you get the best of both worlds-

Born in North Dakota. Raised in California. Montana resident since 1986, Miles City since 1992.

Never will be a good ol' boy, member of the Sons or Daughters of anything (maybe Sons of Norway???), don't know where they'll send me when I keel over.

Richard,

I too have traveled around the U.S.A., I haven't been to the places you have, But I have time. I know I am not getting any younger, so I should get started.
I always have wanted to go to Nashville, TN. Maybe that is where I will head next.
I am glad you wrote on the forum.
Miles City is my second favorite place to go, It is a nice city with friendly people. Not too far from Billings, either.

I was born in South Dakota, grew up in Miles City, and now live in Washington, DC. I love the east coast and DC, but I do miss all my family and friends back in Miles City.

I grew up in St. Paul, Mn and hope to move to Montana within the next year and discover some more of my family roots. My grandfather worked for the railroad in Glendive, Mt. in the early twenties. My father also grew up in Livingston, MT part of his life. Lots to discover!

I was born in Billings and my Dad liked to move around so lived in Havre, Missoula, Helena, Bozeman, Butte, then back to Billings before I was 8. When I was 8 my mom brought us to Miles City and I stayed there until I was 19 then went to school in Bozeman. I spent summers working in little pieces of paradise at resorts in Glacier National Park, Jackson Hole Wyoming, Winter Park, CO, and Wickenburg, AZ.

After I graduated, the best job Miles City had to offer(maybe the only job at the time) was at Ben Franklin's (nice people, Grant and Dorothy, but a college graduate shouldn't be making minimum wage), so I was off to San Diego, CA. I moved with my company to Santa Barbara and now live just south of there in Ventura.

I saw a post putting down Californians a minute ago-but consider this-at least 20 people from the CCHS class of '80 are working and living out here because there is a lot more opportunity than there is in MT. I imagine there are more "Miles Citians" out here than back there-I know when I lived in Miles City the population was over 12,000 people and now I've heard it's about half.

When I retire, I imagine I'll be one of those "darn Californians" that buy land in Montana ;-) Of course, my Aunt wrote that it was
-40 degrees the beginning of the month so maybe I'll have to be one of those "snowbird" types!

For the record, the population of Miles City itself is around 8,500. It peaked in 1917, dropped between 1920 and 1940, peaked again before the "Reagan" years of the eighties and the close of the Milwaukee at around 9,500. Outside of Miles City, the county runs around 12,000. The population rises and falls around 1,000 but has been pretty stable since 1920. We are sort of 'flatliners' in the population graph world. Compared to many small, rural communities, we are holding our own, which is a good thing.

Texas here, and the best people I've found, next to Montanans.
I try to get back to Miles City once a year. I have many fond memories of the town.

Thanks to everyone who has said where they live. So many places.
I only wish I had seen more of the U.S.A. I still have time. But I doubt I will see much more. But at least I live in Montana.
