Just a note to all Relay Teams. We are looking for groups to hold activities on the 4th of July. Approval has been granted to use both Veterans Park and Riverside Park, as well as Main Street. We'd like non-profit organizations to think about providing activities, food booths, etc. through out the afternoon. I believe that if we publicize all the things going on, we'll have a very good attendance.

Let me know if any teams are interested in participating.

You can sure be in the parade too. We're looking for all sorts of entries. The more the merrier!

Kim,

Thank you for having root beer floats in the park yesterday. Having your team there added greatly to the community spirit of the day!

I believe that the attendance at the parade and in the park proved that Miles City is in favor of continuing this event. I hope that more non-profit organizations will use the opportunity to showcase their involvement in the community by participating in the parade and post parade activities next year.

Looking forward to the next wonderful community event.....RELAY FOR LIFE!!!!!!

35 days to go until our 10th Anniversary Relay for Life. Please join us in a fun filled Friday night! Music, games, raffles, food, and socializing. All of this and raising money to find a cure! How cool! We will begin festivities August 19th at 7 pm and wrap up Sat morning around 8.
If you have never experienced Relay I urge you to take a stroll and check things out! At 10 pm we will have our Luminary ceremony. This is something that can't be missed. It's beautiful, it gives us a chance to remember and reflect on those who have fought, won and lost the battle agianst cancer.
It's never too late to form a team, buy a luminary, or volunteer. If you have an interest in walking but aren't on a team, there is always room, we can hook you up!
I WILL GIVE OUT A PRIZE TO ANYONE WHO PURCHASES A LUMINARY ($10) BETWEEN NOW AND THE 19TH OF AUGUST. What is a luminary? We write the person's name of whom you want to honor on a white bag. A tea light is set in the bottom and before the ceremony we light all of the candles. Last year we had almost 1000.
Any questions, comments or ideas, PLEASE call Cinda Christopherson or Brandi Gibson at 234-7409. We'd love to hear from you!

A big thank you to everyone who came and supported our rummage sale. I can't believe the Relay is just over three weeks away. I hope everyone will come out to the MCC track and enjoy the festivities--August 19th and 20th--beginning at 7:00 on Friday evening.

The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life is this Friday and Saturday, August 19th and 20th. We have 27 teams signed up so lots of walkers will be cruising the track all night long. There will be a deejay, food and lots of activities so plan on joining us. The survivor lap begins at 7:00 Friday night (very moving!) followed by the parade of teams in their costumes representing their themes. There is no finish line until we find a cure.

The luminaria ceremony will begin at 10:00 p.m. Friday night and hundreds of luminarias will line the track. This is also a very moving ceremony. Luminarias are a donation of $10 in memory of someone who has died from cancer or in honor of a cancer survivor. Let me know if you would like one.

Our team will be selling puppy chow, root beer floats and very cool bracelets made by Casey Schock.

Hope to see you there. It's about being a community that takes up the fight!!

Today is the big day! Twenty-five teams, 80+ survivors are registered and almost 1000 luminarias have been donated. The weather is supposed to be reasonable so come on out and enjoy the evening. Grab some dinner, cheer on the survivors, enjoy the parade of teams (I promise some great creativity!) and take part in the luminaria ceremony. There will also be a silent auction on more than 25 gift baskets created by the teams from 6:00 until 10:00. The Relay store will be open so you can get your own really cool Relay gear. You can still register for the survivor lap at the event and donate a luminaria if you would like.
This is an awesome testimony to the war on cancer. Come join us!!

As this was my last year as Chair of Relay, I want to extend a huge Thank You to my Committee people and the MC community. Without all of you we wouldn't of had such a successful year. I will continue to be part of the Committee and participate as a team captain and I have no doubt that your new Chair will do an excellent job.
I hope to see more of you out at Relay next year. What an unbelievable event.
Sincerely,
Cinda Christopherson

This is an "almost current" event.....The Relay for Life won't be coming up until August, but now is the time to be working on teams. There are already a number of teams registered, but there is plenty of room for more.

For more information on forming a team or registering a team, call Cori at 234-4256.

Bucking Horse weekend would be a good time for teams to have fundraisers. The quilt will be ready for raffling. A HUGE thank you to the Copper Thimble and Linda Losinski for all they do to provide a quilt to raffle every year. It is, once again, beautiful!
Stop in the Copper Thimble to see and buy your raffle tickets.

You can also get raffle tickets for the quilt from any Relay For Life committee member.
We are moving full-steam ahead and have between 25 and 30 teams registered. It's not too late to put together a team. If you are interested call Cori at 234-4256 and she will get you a team packet.
Our goal this year is $67,000--please be generous when someone asks you to donate.
You can make a difference. There is no finish line until we find a cure. It's about being a community that takes up the fight.

This will be a good place to post Relay For Life fund raisers, so team captains or members, please feel free to do that. Here's the first one I know about....

Saturday, June 24 from 1 - 4 at the Convent there will be a combined event with an open house for Lia Sophia Jewelry hosted by Ashley Bratland and an introduction to Bella Casa - which is Miles City's newest shopping experience, and which will be hosted by Erin Schock.

Ashley is donating 1/2 of the proceeds of the jewelry sales to Relay. Erin is offering discount coupons as well as a chance to win a fabulous prize at Bella Casa for folks making a donation to Relay.

The beautiful Relay quilt will also be on display, and tickets can be purchased that afternoon. They are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00.

Luminary forms will be available for anyone wishing to purchase a luminary in honor or memory of someone who has battled cancer.

And of course, there will be refreshments!!

Thank you in advance for your support of this and other Relay activities and events.

ATTENTION RELAY TEAM CAPTAINS AND TEAM MEMBERS!!!!

There will be a Pizza Party and Meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 1 at 6:30 P.M. in RM. 106 at the College. We have a lot of things to share with you, including Paint The Town Purple, which we want to start on August 7th. We need your help to make it successful, so please come and learn how your team can get involved.

Also....one of our teams will have rootbeer floats at Lewis and Clark on the Lower Yellowstone this coming week. If you're out for the event, plan on cooling off with a float!

Again though, please plan on at least a team captain - if not team members - coming on Tuesday. We'll look forward to seeing you there.

We're getting ready to RELAY!!!!!!

Kim posted a schedule of Relay events on the Paint the Town Purple forum, but I wanted to post them here as well.

The Relay is Friday, Aug 18th. Food will be served starting at 6:00 p.m. and going til about 10:00 or 10:30.

Menu is:
Hamburgers and Hotdogs
Haystack Tacos
Indian Fry Bread Tacos
Sloppy Joes
Lemonade, Iced Tea, Bottled Water and Pepsi Products

Opening remarks by Mayor at 7:00 p.m. followed by the survivor's lap, which is the coolest thing ever!!! It is so great to cheer on those who have battled and won or who are currently struggling with cancer. Music, games, food and fun until the luminaria ceremony at 10:00 p.m.. This is an amazing ceremony......

It's supposed to be a perfect day - weather wise - so hope to see a big crowd.

It will be different this year in that we aren't able to use the track. Our set up won't be the same as past years, and parking will be in different locations. Here's the run down on that.....

Parking is available in the BACK parking lot of the college, in the dorm parking lot, on Dickinson Street, in the Albertson's back parking lot, in the V.A back lot, and in the Eastern Mt. Cancer Center parking lot as well as the field behind the cancer center toward the track.

PLEASE LEAVE THE LOT AT THE END OF THE TRACK OPEN FOR SURVIVORS!!! We'll have golf carts to help transport survivors in particular, or others who can't walk quite that far up to the centra.

Even though the event will be a bit different logistically, it is still going to be fantastic, so don't miss it!!!

See you there!

I encourage everyone to come out and sign the HOPE banner that will be going to Washington D.C. with me next month to let Senators Baucus and Burns and Representative Rehberg that we care about cancer issues and we vote!!

We will also have a message board for each one of them so that you can write them your own personal message. These will be hand-delivered when I meet with each one of them individually.

The Celebration on the Hill is September 19-20 in Washington D.C., and is designed to let our lawmakers know that we want them to support continued funding of research and the Breast and Cervical Health Program, as well as to sign and support the Cancer Promise--to eliminate all death and suffering from cancer by 2015. This goal was set by the current administration and needs support from our lawmakers to be accomplished.

So come out to the Relay and sign the banner and have a great time!

What a fantastic event!!! Thank you Miles City, Broadus, Jordan and Forsyth for making this year's Relay our best ever! It never ceases to amaze me how generous every one is. Our corporate sponsors, merchants and individuals always step up to the plate, providing dollars, prizes, food, time, labor and talents to make it all possible.

It was a beautiful night....the weather, food, and music were all terrific! A special thank to all of the Open Mic'ers who played and sang. That was a great addition to the evening.

Our survivors were as always, so very inspiring and the luminaria were truly beautiful. Thanks to everyone who purchased them.

The best part of the evening though, came when the money was counted and the total revealed. There are still a few checks that are on their way, and all of the proceeds from the Relay store aren't quite tallied, but once it all comes in, we're thrilled to say we'll have over $75,000!!! Our goal was $67,000 but thanks to everyone's tremendous efforts, we far exceeded our own expectations. Thanks to all of the teams who worked so hard throughout the year, but particularly this summer, to raise their team funds. All of the events and fund raisers were great!

We can be proud that we truly are "A Community That Takes Up The Fight"! Good job everyone.....we'll see you next year!!
