Question re: Miles City Swimming 1989-91

There was this kid that swam on the MC Federation team. I don't remember his last name but his first was Dana. He had a sister named McKayla(sp) I believe.

I was going through some old pictures the other day (I swam at the same time but was like one of 9 boys my age in the entire state who competed) and remembered this kid who was just a phenomenal swimmer for his age.

Anyone know who I am talking about and did he go on to swim in college or anything?

By chance are you talking about Dane. Dane Saunders lives in Utah and his sister Mykala worked with the swim team down the road from their house. I am sure that the both Swam in HS down there, or for a swim team, but don't know much past that.

That's it. Dane Saunders. Did they move away from Miles City before they got old enough for High School? I know MC doesn't have a HS team.

Mikala was a friend of mine and I also swam on the Federation swim team. They moved when Mikala and I were freshman.

Mikala swam in high school down in Utah. Believe or not, Dane found out he was allergic to chlorine once the moved down there so he couldn't swim on a team anymore!

I was doing the sports at KATL when the MC Federated team won back-to-back state titles and the Saunders' kids were leading the pack. I believe David Laird coached that team. At that same time, there was also a girl named Carrie Booth who was an excellent swimmer, but she competed for the AAU team instead of the federated team.

Dane and Mikaela's dad, Tom, cooked a mean pot of chili, too, and won several chili cook-offs!

Anyway, sorry to hear Dane couldn't compete anymore due to the chlorine allergy.

<sigh> the good old days.

They were both very young still when I was competing. That's to bad that he was allergic to chlorine, wow.

Well thanks for the information. Always nice to get those odd questions answered, heh.
