Another outstanding list, Dave, but you have one GLARING omission:

Danny Carey, Tool

The best living rock drummer in the world.

Ringo's son, Zak Starkey, is a damn good drummer as well. He represents Keith Moon extremely well in concert with The Who.

While he is definitely a froot loop by most people's standards, Travis Barker of Blink 182(formerly) is considered by many, including 4 on that first list, as one of the most talented drummers alive today.

There's no such group as Emerson, Lake, and Powell.... it's Emerson, Lake and Palmer and the drummers name is Carl Palmer.

I hope you are joking, but if you aren't http://en.wikipedia.org/w...e_&_Powell

This album got a lot of renewed interest in the aging trio at the time.

FWIW - Marc Bonilla is currently touring in the Keith Emerson Band (how come we don't have a thumbs up smiley?)

My favorite currently doing his thing is Taylor Hawkins, driving the bus for The Foo Fighters. Dude has some serious chops. I just caught there "Live at Wembley Stadium" DVD the other day. Pretty spectacular, although the sound quality leaves plenty to be desired.
Very very nice finish to the show though. John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page join them for "Rock and Roll" featuring Dave Grohl on drums, and Taylor Hawkins on vocals. Then, Dave gets to sing "Ramble On' with Taylor back on his throne, and of course Jimmy Page tearing the house down, and John Paul Jones playing my favorite bass riff of all time. Pretty epic stuff right there.
If you get a chance to see Foo live, don't miss it. It will rip your brains out.

I think folks are smart enough to figure out that Peter Chris wasn't a great drummer.

Better check out Marco Minneman though.

And lets throw Morgan Argen in too.

Doug Benge was one of the finest drummers to come out of CCHS back in the Bands "Glory Days" of the Ralph Hartse era. For you youngsters out there, Ralph Harste's marching bands, concert bands, and Pep Bands, were the finest units in the state, in fact the Northwest United States. CCHS won the Grand Sweepstakes award with their precision marching, and playing at the 1964 Portland Rose Parade, beating out bands from Portland, Seattle, and California.

Other than myself, and I no longer play, so that doesn't count, the best recording drummer has to be Ringo Starr. His timing is impeccable. He never plays too much, He never plays too little, and his fills are always exactly in context. As far as live drummers, Gene Krupa was one of the most exciting players ever. He played very well, and he was wonderful to watch.

There is a young man locally that just blows me away. His name is Justin Toews. He is in the church band at the local Foursquare Church, Living Way Fellowship, 10th and Missouri, here in Miles City. He is certainly worth watching.

Sorry man, when I heard Ringo mentioned a second time, I felt forced to pipe up.

This list for the most part should be titled "Best Rock Drummers" with the lack of attention most of the Jazz greats are getting. That said, I don't think Ringo would belong even on that narrower list.

Didn't John Lennon joke once about Ringo not even being the best drummer in the Beatles, let alone the world?

You sure quote Lennon a lot, Rick.
