In order to post a photo, you first need to put it online somewhere. Here are a few places:
ImageShack -> http://www.imageshack.us/
Photobucket -> http://www.photobucket.com/
Flickr -> http://www.flickr.com/
I'm sure there are others.
To embed the image into your post, you must use the following syntax:
[img]http://www.website.com/etc/whatever.jpg[/img]
Where the part in bold, above, is whatever the actual URL to the image is (and it must start with "http://" or "ftp://"). The website you posted the image at should give you the URL. (If not -- find the picture, right click it, then select Properties, and copy the URL).
Also realize:
(A) the [img]...[/img] tag must be in lowercase,
(B) for embedding, the URL must point directly to an actual image,
(C) if the image is larger than 590 pixels wide, it will be resized down by each visitor's browser -- so it is best to avoid that extra waste of bandwidth by not embedding images of a much larger width.

In summary, here is an image I noticed on Flickr:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3293/3142971277_4f90a33708.jpg
***
To simply link to it, you must add the [url]...[/url] tag, like this:
[url]http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3293/3142971277_4f90a33708.jpg[/url]
Which results in this:
http://farm4.static.flick...a33708.jpg
