How to Post a Photo

In order to post a photo, you first need to put it online somewhere. Here are a few places:

ImageShack -> http://www.imageshack.us/
Photobucket -> http://www.photobucket.com/
Flickr -> http://www.flickr.com/

I'm sure there are others.

To embed the image into your post, you must use the following syntax:

[img]http://www.website.com/etc/whatever.jpg[/img]

Where the part in bold, above, is whatever the actual URL to the image is (and it must start with "http://" or "ftp://"). The website you posted the image at should give you the URL. (If not -- find the picture, right click it, then select Properties, and copy the URL).

Also realize:

(A) the [img]...[/img] tag must be in lowercase,
(B) for embedding, the URL must point directly to an actual image,
(C) if the image is larger than 590 pixels wide, it will be resized down by each visitor's browser -- so it is best to avoid that extra waste of bandwidth by not embedding images of a much larger width.

***

In summary, here is an image I noticed on Flickr:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3293/3142971277_4f90a33708.jpg

***

To simply link to it, you must add the [url]...[/url] tag, like this:

[url]http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3293/3142971277_4f90a33708.jpg[/url]

Which results in this:

http://farm4.static.flick...a33708.jpg

***

To embed the image in a post, you must use the [img]...[/img] tag, like this:

[img]http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3293/3142971277_4f90a33708.jpg[/img]

Which results in this:

Hi,

I'll try this one and see how it does.
This was a sunrise in Miles City in early December. It was a Glorius beginning to the day.

The URL for your photo was problematic and I'm not sure why. I guess imageshack.us was blocking remote embedding via that URL.

On Imageshack's page for the photo there was an "Embed" option and from that I gleaned this URL:

http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/6863/img3536f.jpg

Which does allow for embedding of the photo:

yeah, Imageshack started procreating up the direct link, so I had to start doing what Dave did....using the embedded option and removing the extraneous tags. Kind of a pain in the rear. I don't know why they did that.

FYI, I updated the web site so that BBCode links pasted from sites like Flickr should now display properly.

one thing I noticed is that although the img tags work they MUST be in LOWER case... sometimes on image hosting sites the code that they have you copy has the img tags in upper case...

so...

"[i m g].... [/i m g]" (no spaces lol.. it wanted to post a non existant pic)

NOT:

I think it may be a HomeEc or Food Quality Lab at a school. First clue is the small sink on the right side of the photo. Of course, I could be totally wrong.

Sorry guys, it is a double sink and is in a rental home I have available. No one was living there at time of photo, thus the clean kitchen. If you look closely, you will see some cleaning rags etc. I finally got the url posted correctly in the classified. No one would want to see a picture of my working kitchen. lol

You need to upload a larger image to whatever site you're hosting your photo on. The image pointed to by this url:

http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag70/brynnf21/
th_HelpingHandsFlyer1012b.jpg

is tiny -- 120x160 pixels.

From the "Links to share this photo" box on your page, copy the text in the "Direct" field:

http://i1006.photobucket.com/albums/af189/Sarah_Wetherelt_Lane/Roxy_zpsc3812170.jpg

Then add the [img][/img] tags like so:

[img]http://i1006.photobucket.com/albums/
af189/Sarah_Wetherelt_Lane/Roxy_zpsc3812170.jpg[/img]

Which will display the photo:

From what you posted, the following link:

http://s46.photobucket.co...sort=3&o=0

Has a place to click named "DIRECT" on it that copies the image url to your clipboard.

On MilesCity.com, paste that into a message and put [img] before and [/img] after that value, which will then look like this:

This will all be improved soon.
