I have been trying to develop a early history of the Yellowstone river area, and I have tripped ofver the name of Ft. Alexander. It was supposed to be located north of the Yellowstone near the mouth of the Tongue. I appears to have antedated Ft. Keogh by a considerable amount of time and may have been a fur fort, possibly part of the Hudson Bay Company. (Named after Alexander Mackenzie???) I am familiar with most of the military forts, but have not heard of this one.

In the book, "This Last West" by Lorman L. Hoopes, there is a map in the middle of the book that shows Fort Alexander. It is on the south side of the Yellowstone River about midway between Rosebud Creek and the Tongue River. At Rosebud Creek is a town (?) called Meldrum which is marked "(Old Trading Post)". The map is titled "Overall sketch, 'This Last West,' 1878" and is hand drawn by the author. The map is located in the photos/maps section of the book and that section does not include page numbers.
