Thread for Don Muir

Now see, Don, THIS is where you should be posting your Anti-Whalenistic propaganda. In fact, let me start it for you.

(For those who don't know, Mr. Muir posted in a thread about the guy that fell in the river, and I quote--"How VERY UNPROFESSIONAL for the mayor of a town or city to post on this or any other non- gov. website! He/She should use the city/town website to post!")

If I may run with this, Don?

Mr. Mayor...if that IS your official title....I think it is a travesty that you use MilesCity.com as a means to connect with the public. Just who do you think you are anyway? The nerve of some public officials, using such a medium to "set the record straight" and quell any "rumors" so things don't get "out of hand." For shame, "sir"!

What's next? Articles in the newspaper? (Don't get any ideas, pal...Don and I will be watching the newspaper, just waiting to pounce the next time you decide to "inform the 'good' people of Miles City.")

I'm amazed that Joe has the strength to put up with local small town politics ... sheesh. The guy works his ass off to help the city and is constantly slammed ... perhaps Butch should be voted back in.

In the past I've also been told a portion of the "old guard" in Miles City basically feel this site doesn't best represent or benefit the town and have even contemplated measures such as trademarking "Miles City" in an attempt to take the milescity.com domain name away from me. Idiots. I know more about intellectual property law than those fools probably know about the local code.

At this moment in time MilesCity.com has the highest viewership of any website for the community.

It seems very fair to me that if something important arises, and Joe posts a message or update here to inform the masses ... then he is performing a valuable public service.

MilesCity.com and the related domain names are not going away. The "old guard" will have to learn to live with that fact, even while some must put up with the horror of benefitting from free advertising and traffic dished out to them by this site.

I think it is very kind of Joe to post on here. I personally don't check the other websites for Miles City news. And when it's such a small community we all fear that it's one of our own that has been harmed. And if it's not one of ours, then it's a friend or a member of a friend's family.

It is only out of kindness and consideration that Joe posts here. Please continue to do so, Joe.

With heartfelt thanks.

I think Mayor Whalen should be commended for his efforts to keep the public informed by any means possible including this site.

Recent events have brought one thing to my attention and that is Miles City's woefully poor weekend news coverage. The local paper is non-existent on the weekend, there is no local television news coverage that I'm aware of, and I'm not sure if any of the local radio stations actually employ a news team of any kind. Miles City is dependant on Billings for its weekend news coverage.

I think the Yellowstone Newspapers folks need to move into the current times and recognize the importance of websites in their industry. It's time to stop fearing and loathing the Web and start embracing the technology. They don't have to publish a weekend newspaper but they should have an on-call reporter with the ability to provide breaking news updates on their website. Otherwise people turn elsewhere for their news (Billings Gazette, KTVQ/KULR websites, milescity.com) and that can not be good for business.

But, that's just my opinion.
