Showdown at Big Sky, by Robbie Robertson.

My favorite MT song is Livingston Saturday Night by Jimmy Buffett.
I've seen Jimmy Buffett and Harrison Ford partying together at The Roadhouse in N. Wyoming, so I imagine he's been to Livingston a few times.

"Best of Both Worlds" by Hannah Montana (sorry, just couldn't resist!)

While I can't come up with any titles off the top of my head, I know Jimmy Buffett has a few songs that mention Montana.

Also, Eve 6 did a song called "Hey Montana"

Montana
Written by Charles C. Cohan
Composed by Joseph E. Howard

Tell me of that Treasure State
Story always new,
Tell of its beauties grand
And its hearts so true.
Mountains of sunset fire
The land I love the best
Let me grasp the hand of one
From out the golden West.

Montana, Montana,
Glory of the West
Of all the states from coast to coast,
You're easily the best.
Montana, Montana,
Where skies are always blue
M-O-N-T-A-N-A,
Montana, I love you.

Each country has its flow'r;
Each one plays a part,
Each bloom brings a longing hope
To some lonely heart.
Bitter Root to me is dear
Growing in my land
Sing then that glorious air
The one I understand.

Montana, Montana,
Glory of the West
Of all the states from coast to coast,
You're easily the best.
Montana, Montana,
Where skies are always blue
M-O-N-T-A-N-A,
Montana, I love you.

Cheers!

Montana Fight Song...

Up with Montana, boys, down with the foe,
Old Montana's out for a victory;
She'll shoot her backs around the foe-men's line;
A hot time is coming now, oh, brother mine.

Up with Montana, boys, down with the foe.
Good old Grizzly'll triumph today;
and the squeal of the pig will float on the air;
from the tummy of the Grizzly bear.

GO GRIZ!!!!

Rascal Flatt's "Me and My Gang" song mentions Butte, Montana (of all places!).

Way on down to southern Alabama
With the guitars jammin' that's where we're headed
Straight up to Butte, Montana singin' Lord I was born a ramblin' man..........

"Montana" by Frank Zappa (I still have people sing this one to me when I tell them where I'm from-although I have to admit I have never heard the actual song).

http://en.wikipedia.org/w...Zappa_song

I might be movin'
to Montana soon
Just to raise me up a crop of
Dental Floss

Raisin' it up
Waxen it down
In a little white box
That I can sell uptown

By myself I wouldn't
Have no boss,
But I'd be raisin' my lonely
Dental Floss

Raisin' my lonely
Dental Floss

Well I just might
grow me some bees
But I'd leave the sweet stuff
To somebody else . .
. but then, on the
other hand Iwould

Keep the wax
N' melt it down
Pluck some Floss
N' swish it aroun'

I'd have me a crop
An' it'd be on top
(that's why I'm
movin' to Montana)

Movin' to Montana soon
Gonna be a Dental Floss
tycoon (yes I am)
Movin' to Montana soon
Gonna be a mennil-toss flykune

I'm pluckin' the ol'
Dennil Floss
That's growin' on the prairie
Pluckin' the floss!
I plucked all day an'
all nite an' all
Afternoon . . .

I'm ridin' a small tiny hoss
(His name is MIGHTY LITTLE)
He's a good hoss
Even though
He's a bit dinky to
strap a big saddle or
Blanket on anyway
He's a bit dinky to
strap a big saddle or
Blanket on anyway
Any way
[ Find more Lyrics at www.mp3lyrics.org/VIo ]

I'm pluckin' the ol'
Dennil Floss
Even if you think it
is a little silly,
folks
I don't care if you think
it's silly, folks
I don't care if you think
it's silly, folks

I'm gonna find me a horse
Just about this big,
An' ride him all along
the border line

With a
Pair of heavy-duty
Zircon-encrusted
tweezers in my hand
Every other wrangler would say
I was mighty grand

By myself I wouldn't
Have no boss,
But I'd be raisin' my lonely
Dental Floss

Raisin' my lonely
Dental Floss
Raisin' my lonely
Dental Floss

Well I might
Ride along the border
With my tweezers gleamin'
In the moon-lighty night

And then I'd
Get a cuppa cawfee
N' give my foot a push . . .
Just me 'n the pygmy pony
Over the Dennil Floss Bush

N' then I might just
Jump back on
An' ride
Like a cowboy
Into the dawn to Montana

Movin' to Montana soon
(Yippy-Ty-O-Ty-Ay)
Movin' to Montana soon
(Yippy-Ty-O-Ty-Ay)
Movin' to Montana soon
(Yippy-Ty-O-Ty-Ay)
Movin' to Montana soon
(Yippy-Ty-O-Ty-Ay)
Movin' to Montana soon
(Yippy-Ty-O-Ty-Ay)
Movin' to Montana soon
(Yippy-Ty-O-Ty-Ay)
Movin' to Montana soon
(Yippy-Ty-O-Ty-Ay)
Movin' to Montana soon
(Yippy-Ty-O-Ty-Ay)
Movin' to Montana soon
(Yippy-Ty-O-Ty-Ay)
Movin' to Montana soon
(Yippy-Ty-O-Ty-Ay)
Movin' to Montana soon
(Yippy-Ty-O-Ty-Ay)
Movin' to Montana soon

"Evidently no one here watches "Montana Backroads" on PBS, which opens with Bruce Anfinson singing, "Home is where Montana is, Montana is my home..." "

I really like that show, but I am never sure when it is going to be scheduled. Seems like I find it by accident, and usually on Sundays.

Marie Osmand had a duet with someone(I forgot his name) with a song that had a verse in it that said " Meet me in Montana." I hope someone else can fill it in with the real title and the person who did the duet with her.

I can't believe the number of songs that mention Butte. Really makes me wonder if any of these folks have ever even been there. There ain't nuthin' to sing about. Maybe somebody told them they were there, and they can't remember the details. Sometimes an alcoholic haze is a good thing?

FYI to those who know Rob Quist, he now has reformed a band along the lines of the Mission Mountain Wood Band. They are known as the Great Northern Band. We almost had them here for the all '50s class reunion.

Mission Mountain Wood Band's "Come in without knocking" is a great Montana kind of song. The first verse, (keep in mind that this is from memory) goes like this here: "I go in without knocking to the first saloon I see in this town, been in the saddle 40 days, Lord I'm Montana bound. I come in without knocking, and stay til the last dollars down" It has the coming back to Mont. theme, the cowboy theme, the Montana bars theme, and the drinking all night theme. pretty much just screams out Montana.

Frank, thanks for posting the MONTANA song....you brought back nightmares of being 10 years old, and my grandma thinking me and my 8 year old sister should sing this for the Powderville Centennial.

OH, and whoever was posting about the opening lines to back roads...that is Montana Skies..John Denver I believe.

Ray Stevens also mentions Butte, MT in his Haircut song...
