I blame it on slackers who aren't doing their fair share. If we'd all just pull together so that our Nation is NOT exporting excess capacity . . . we'd not have a gas shortage. We ALL need to do our part to insure there is no excess capacity to export.
Oh yes, we've done a little here and there to address the problem. Granted we have reversed the decline in per person edible dry bean consumption that plagued the Nation from 2002 to 2005. Granted that dry bean consumption has rallied, reaching 6.4 pounds per American in 2007.
But People . . . that simply is not enough to deal with the gas shortage.
This year our farmers will likely produce over 24 million cwt of pintos, great northerns, small whites, light red kidneys, dark red kidneys, pinks, small reds, blacks, cranberry beans, pea beans, and garbanzos.
And what do we do? We export 6.6 million cwt of beans overseas. No wonder we are coming up short in the gas department!!!
Dig in . . . eat more beans and we'll have more gas than we care to deal with.
