Attention all brides and bridesmaids
Posted by Tina Bean (+419) 14 years ago
I have a bride that I recently did wedding photos for. She wants to do a "TRASH THE DRESS" shoot with her and her bridesmaids. We are going to do it Friday or Saturday of BHS weekend. If this sounds like something you would want to do please contact me. Tina @ 951-3508. There is no charge..just for fun!!!(only pay for the photos you order if you want any) Get dolled up in your wedding dress with your girls and trash the hell out of it. I know, I know, why would you want to ruin something you spent all that money on...well, I'm not sure really, but tonz of girls are doing it now. Sounds like a good time so we figured we would see if anyone else wanted to join in. BHS weekend fun LOL!

Actually I guess even the High School girls could do it too in their formal dresses. Thanks for pointing that out when you called. Looks like we're gonna have a ball. Thanks for all of the responses...keep em coming!

This is one of those things--like renting thousand dollar designer handbags-- that really makes me scratch my head. How about instead of ruining the dress, give it to St. V's so a girl with a smaller budget can wear it. Or donate it to the Barn Theater group, where it could be used as a costume in a play. There must be a dozen better things to do with an overpriced bit of clothing than ruin it.

To each their own. So I guess you don't want to do it?

Just kiddin. But really... everyone has the freedom to make their own choices. This is theirs.

I just saw a story on the news about some organization taking formal dresses, and I suppose wedding dresses, cleaning them up and then giving them away.

The trashing of formals and wedding dresses fits well into the "Dogpatch" motif.

Donating a dress requires compassion and a ability to see beyond your own amusement. Not everyone has those qualities.

During the BHS it would be more fun and interesting if the guys could trash the dresses. (Come on now, every guy that regularly posts here thought the same darn thing.) Gunnar, Buck...

I was thinking more about the people in the dresses getting trashed.

If you check out the trash the dress website, you will see that generally the dress is not ruined at all. It just needs a trip to the dry cleaners. A lot of these photos have the bride in her dress sitting on the bank of the river...or in a tree...or in an old pickup. The photography is lovely and the dress only gets as messy as you want it to. Compassion for others has nothing to do with it.

Are the dry cleaners good at vomit removal?

I think we're all aware that compassion for others has nothing to do with it. Now back to trashed bridesmaids.

A 'trash the dress website?' I guess there is something for everyone. That said, at no time in the original post was either a web site devoted to ruining dresses mentioned or was it explained that 'trash the dress' meant get the hem dirty before taking it to the dry cleaners. It sounded to me--and remember, I am old and out the swing of things--that girls wanted to destroy expensive clothes that their parents probably paid for as a cheap thrill. I suggest charity, while less thrilling, might be an option.

Personally? I paid less than $40 for the material for a cotton dress my sister-in-law made. Felt no need to trash it. I can even still fit into it, after thirty years of marriage. (Elastic waist and the elastic is shot! Heeheehee.)

I'm with you Valerie except this marks the 5th year anniversary that my husband and I started dating. We married the following year on Memorial Weekend. This year is our four year anniversary. Congratulations to you and your husband.

Amorette,
I find it interesting that you are against trashing a wedding dress, but can justify the quarter million bucks for the restroom/visitors center. I can understand the need for improvement, but I still can't get past the price tag. Do you really feel that there is no cheaper way to make the improved restrooms happen?
