Today marks the effective end of Prohibition....beer became legal to sell as the Cullen Harrison Act went into effect on April 7, 1933. For the first time in 14 years, our grandfathers were able to drink a legal beer. Cheers!

I just cracked open a Madison River Brewing Co. "Hopper Pale Ale" in celebration.

I was able to find Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale for sale at the local Holiday gas station last night for $4 a six pack! So I bought a case, and drank two of these excellent American-made beers during the Kansas-Memphis game last night.

Hooray for beer!

I see that in hour of the anniversary, Schlitz is returning to their 1960s recipe, which made them the No. 2 beer in the U.S. at the time:

The Day Beer Resumed Flowing, Legally

In addition to the commentary, they play excerpts from a speech August Busch gave as the first cases of 3.2 beer rolled off the line at the St. Louis brewery on April 7. Needless to say, Augie was excited about being back in business :-)

I would be remiss in not wishing everyone here at mc.com (even you, Aaron), a "Happy National Beer Day!!!"

I could be wrong, but if you do the math it comes out to 78 years not 75. 1933 to 2011, just saying.

JMD, you may have brilliant math skills but you may not be so keen on the subtle details.

I was going to say, I hit the 75th anniversary of the repeal of Prohibition in Stardust some time ago. They shipped in two railcars full of beer and it vanished in two days.

I love reading what you are all drinking. For me, if it ain't PBR, it's barely beer. Although at home, I make do with cans. Not as good in the can, but any port in a storm eh?

Rah. Rah. Here they're closing several profitable liquor stores "to save money." Hah!

IMO... PBR is barely barley pop. Love the new Guinness Foreign Extra.

Bwahahaha! Good one, Dave!

Last night, to celebrate the occasion, I brewed a tripel. I'm estimating that when its done in a couple of months, it will have an alcohol content around 9% by volume.
