Favorite BAD movies
Posted by Bob Netherton (+1886) 15 years ago
I'm trying to start a thread that won't end in a fight....

What is your favorite bad movie? I'm talking about the types that are so bad they're good - something like "The Conquerers" starring John Wayne.

Other examples would be "Plan 9 from Outer Space" or "Santa Claus vs. the Martians" or "Mchale's Navy" starring Tom Arnold or maybe "Death Wish II".

I've never seen a Van Damme movie that wasn't great/terrible, but my all time favorite has got to be Double Impact. Van Damme vs. Van Damme, good stuff.

Here's a truly BAD movie. The acting is horrible & the dialogue is even worse. How he got elected Governor of California with THIS POS on his resume I'll never know.

I speak of course of Arnold Strong, er I mean, Arnold Schwarzenegger's first movie:

Hercules in New York
http://imdb.com/title/tt0065832/

This is so pitiful it's easily one of the most humorous movies I've ever seen.

I remember a double feature at the Park Theatre when I was a kid:
"The Undertaker and his Pals" and "The Corps Grinders".

Also there was a great trilogy at The Sunset:
"Trip With the Teacher", "Teacher's Pet" and...I can't remember the last one. Jay North of "Dennis the Menace" fame was in one of them. They were rated R so one would've expected some nudity. Not one nipple!

ABC - Was 'a Boy and His Dog" a post-holocaust film about a young man and his dog with whom he could communicate by brain waves (ESP)?

Steven Seagal movies are always right up there.

On Deadly Ground was probably the worst. A take-no-prisoners BA environmentalist giving "Big Oil" what they got comin'

Here's a few bad flicks from, surprise, surprise - Sly Stalone

Over The Top
http://www.rottentomatoes...r_the_top/

http://imdb.com/title/tt0093692/

A movie about an arm-wrestling truck driver trying to win the approval of his son?

Sounds like Oscar material to me.

Then there's this winner:

Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot

Not necessarily a bad movie but I caught it last night on one of my cable channels and it got me thinking (1974) "Blazing Saddles". A Mel Brooks classic, some would say, but that movie does not get made in 2008 way too politically incorrect. I couldn't help but think we have become so politically sensitive that we can't even make fun of ourselves anymore. It that respect it is a great, bad movie.

I would agree with "Plan 9 From Outer Space" and "Santa Claus vs. the Martians" ....both terrible movies, but somewhat enjoyable.

Another in the same genre is "Reefer Madness".

If I remember "A Boy and His Dog" right it did have the boy & dog communicating with telepathy. Don Johnson would get involved with a girl and when the relationship started to sour the dog would convence him he was the true friend so lets kill and eat the girl. very bad plot, bad acting and bad sets all adding up to a true top drawer stinker of a film.

Don't forget the main plot of "A Boy and His Dog"...the underground dwellers were after his "man juice," setting him up for forced extraction.

"C.H.U.D." (Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers)

Another movie I saw at the theater (1984-ish) and haven't seen since but it sticks in my mind as being laughably bad.

"A Boy and His Dog" I hate Don Johnson, but that was a terrific movie. Particularly loved the ending LOL!!!

There is one that I have never had the pleasure of seeing, but my husband SWEARS by "Sting of the West" with Jack Palance

This isn't so much a movie as it is an event but one thing that kills me every time I see it is a George Lucas "Love Scene".

He can write a sci-fi adventure but leave the love stuff to the pros.

OMFG, How could I have forgotten Judge Dread? Here's the truly sad part of this whole thing, I was actually there for a screener version a few months before its release. A friend of mine was given tickets and, I'm not kidding here, Sly Stallone himself was sitting a few rows back with his then fling Angie Everheart.

I guess someone should've told him that the name Dread was an appropriate title for that stinker.

Sgt Pepper is a stinker....but would that rate as anyone's favorite bad movie? There is a difference between kitschy/campy bad movies that are enjoyable to watch, but to sit through Sgt Pepper, someone would have to hold a gun to my head.

You got me there, Gunnar. S. Pepper is impossible to watch.
How about the "Sabata" trilogy starring Lee van Cleef (for some reason, Yul Brunner plays Sabata in the "middle" of the three).
At about the same time, Lee Van Cleef plays Yul Brunner's character in "The Magnificant Seven Ride".

Here's a genre that has the most laughably bad movies ever filmed - Kung-Fu/Chop Socky

Some of my favorites in this genre are:

Chinese Super Ninjas, Kid With The Golden Arms, Masked Avengers & Return of The Five Deadly Venoms.

What makes these even more pitiful is that I have them on ****** dvd copies. The only thing "Digitally Remastered" about them are the fact that they're on a digital format. The picture "Quality" is frequently off-centered, faded and in some cases you can see the tracking lines that give it away as being taken from a 5th-generation VHS copy. Unfortunately Shaw Brothers (where these were made) was bought out a couple of years ago and are being truly remastered so these sub-sub standard ones might be a thing of the past.

The sad thing is that I got this:

at a Best Buy all shrink-wrapped and when I got it home and opened it, it smelled like an ashtray and seven years later it still smells like an ashtray.

Gotta love that Kung-Fu Theater!
