Does anyone know what is going into the newly built building next to Fastenal? It looks like a restaurant...but no one seems to know what it's going to be...
-AND-
How excited are we for REAL Mexican food in Miles City? I moved back here a few months ago, and wondered why they haven't ventured to this town yet when they have restaurants from Billings, to Bozeman, Belgrade and even Dillon!! Carne Asada here I come!

We did have a Mexican resturant a long time ago, I was the cook there.
It was called DOS BANDITOS
I love mexican food - expecially carne asada

I think the building next to Fastenal is going to be chiropracter's office. A Mexican restaurant is supposed to be opening in the Olive if they can find competent help.

Is this gonna be an independant place or a chain of some kind?

It's going to be owned by individuals... I believe it's a family that owns a few Mexican restaurants in Billings, Bozeman Etc.

I live in Bozeman, MT and if it is the same famous mexican resturant we have here I will look forward to every visit home......Fiesta Mexicana.......it is owned by a mexican family and it is the bext food I have ever eaten! They also have a resturant set up in Belgrade too! IT all started in Livingston and they are making their way across Montana. I hope they make a home in Miles City. It is truly the best mexican you have ever had!

Did the Olive change hands again? What is the current state of the bar / restaurant. I really liked the old bar but the new remodel looks pretty nice.
Anyone here from Denver? The best Mexican food I've ever had was down town in the art district (cant remember the name of the place or the street) but it was a little cafe that served what I assume was authentic - it was fantastic!

Just found it, it was up the street from the Capsule Art Event Center on Santa Fe Drive....

Another great family Mexican restaurant is Las Carmelitas in Dillon, if you ever find yourself down that way.

The "if they can find competent help" statement scares me.

As I understand it, the family that will be running the restaurant is fine for the food prep but wait staff is what they are looking for. Tonight's ad said they are opening soon so I'm hoping they are getting the folks they need!

Olive itself hasn't changed hands, just a lease on the restaurant. The restaurant has usually been leased.

Yes Amorette is correct on the Olive leasing out the restaurant and no the Olive has not changed hands again it is still owned by the same family that has had it for the last 2 years and it will still continue to offer great service to the local people of Miles City. As for the lounge it has come along ways in the last couple of years and it looks great it is a lounge atmosphere with a great attitude. They also have poker nightly starting at 6 pm and Omaha on sunday starting at 1 pm. The Mexican restaurant is owned by the same people that have all of the other restaurants in Belgrade, Bozeman, Livingston etc. It will definitely benefit Miles City and the surrounding communities.

...I used to work at the bar that Fiesta Mexicana was attached to in Bozeman, and LOVE the family that owns it. I am so glad to hear it is the same clan coming to Miles City... I know I will be able to eat the food...and the service will be great too I'm sure. In fact, I used to eat Fiesta Mexicana sometimes 3 times a day... WHOO HOO!

Is Fiesta Mexicana kind of across 7th from the Cats Paw in Bozeman? Next to Mixers? I live here too, and can't place the name. If that is it, it indeed has great Mexican food. And excellent service.

Bob Wagner is moving his practice to that building.
The new Mexican place will be in the Olive dining room area.

Yes Feista Mexicana is attached to Mixers! They also have an establishment above the Belgrade Lounge.....and if you eat there then you don't have to pay the cover to get into the bar to listen to the bands. I am so excited to have this same great place in Miles City. Does anyone know of an anicitpated opening date. I would love to make a trip home and take my parents out to eat.

I would even be willing to work there in an year when I move back to my hometown. I am hoping to become the new auto shop teacher at the high school when the current one retires. And then I could watiress a couple evenings a week to make some extra cash. Life would be good....My dream job as an auto shop instructor and serving the best mexican food ever!!! Pure Bliss!!!

I'm from Denver and get all moist when I start thinking about all of the great Mom and Pop Mexican restaurants that I have haunted. Denver is rife with that type dining of all styles but as for me, make mine Mexican. When I'm in Billings my first stop is the original Guadalajara on 29th street, downtown.

I honestly hope that the new folks are not stung by the Olive curse and that there are enough fans to support their effort, if the effort is to offer authentic Mexican food.

I am particularly fond of Tex-Mex but have grazed on fine Sonoran, Californian, New Mexico and Mexican. I consider myself an equal opportunity fan so long as it doesn't come out of a large can from Sysco plopped on to a steam table. Oh! my pet peeve, Spanish rice is NOT Mexican food.

Considering that traditional Mexican fare includes animal intestines, tongues, and other body organs that I generally don't find appealing I'll gladly accept the refried beans, rice, and chips and salsa.

Have you ever had Lengua (tongue)? It tastes just like roast beef but more tender. It's really pretty good. The skin is kind of gross looking, but the meat itself you would never guess is tongue if someone didn't tell you.

That's the scary thing about any "authentic" food.

So if you liked something, then found out it was tongue, that would be a problem for you? If you can't tell what it is, but it tastes good, does finding out later that you were eating guts or kidneys or squid or something upset you?

To me, if it tastes good and is non-toxic, I don't care what it is.

I'm looking at the Mexico Lindo menu (one of the perks for working at the Star) and I can't stop drooling. In high school I dated a mexican girl and her dad was an amazing cook, and this is bringing back all those memories. Rumor was that they were going to open tomorrow (Thursday) but that's not the case. The newest date we heard here was sometime next week.

Ooooo, I LOVE tongue! Nicely cooked and just dipped into white vinegar. Yum. Yes, it looks mighty disgusting until you get the skin off but it is darned yummy!

Tongue? Really? I just can't stomach the idea of tasting something that might be tasting me back! But I will admit that I have never tried it. My tastes run pretty traditional. Probably the furthest I have stepped out is eating gator. Had a brunch at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi Mississippi a few years ago on a bike trip, and they had gator cooked about 15 different ways. $29 brunch, which sounds ridiculous, but it was just outstanding. That was before hurricane Katrina literally took away the Beau Rivage. Crying shame that is. Seriously cool place. And for those of you that haven't been, that entire region of the country was fantastic fun. I of course would have a huge grin on my face riding my bike thru the depths of hell. A bad ride is better than a good day of work. I just wish I could find somebody willing to pay me to ride.

Hey Matt; You mentioned the Cats Paw in Bozeman in your earlier post.I'd been racking my brain trying to remember it's location but it finally came to me:the Cats Paw is about three joints down from the Cats Ass.

This in reply to Andrea Nelson statement "The Olive has not changed hands and is run by the same family for the past two years"
Many of you may recall that My mom Carol ran the Olive up until the Nelson's pulled it out from under our feet 1 year ago. So, yes it has changed ownership and management recently!
This goes to show how honest Andrea and her family really are.
Take it for what it is worth!
If anyone would like more details of how the Nelson's got the Olive feel free to ask, or do your own investigating into court documents, etc...
