I am looking forward to our own, internal, Super Saturday Chili Meltdown!

Yes, the Super Bowl, in its own, will be dull. Favre should retire....boy did he suck serious ASS today. What a loser.

I will sort my sock drawer during the Super Bowl to keep myself from falling asleep...how about you?

The problem this year is that there is no match up that would be exciting. The Patriots systematically breakdown and beat down every team they play.

Bret's two picks are what killed it for me. Personally I wanted to see Bret stomp Tom Brady into the Arizona desert but alas....

I can't wait for my 3hr nap on the 3rd.

Should be more exciting than the game.

I actually thought fate was finally going to force me into rooting for Brett Favre for just one game.

But Eli rescued me. I think the big dance will be pretty good actually. Brady's not playing his best ball in the playoffs. If anyone figures out how to score on the Pats in goal to go, they could be in trouble. I think Eli has the arm and the receivers to get it in there.

They may not win, but I don't think it'll be a snoozer.

Week 16 wasn't terrible. 'Nuff said.

I think the G-men are going to give the Pats a good fight. Remember the old saying ..."That's why they play the games." I'll bet a lot of folks predicted a Packer's romp today. My prediction:Giants 27, Patriots 24.

Doesn't suck for those of us who are Giants fans...and who are going to Phoenix!!!
Not that we're going to the actual game, mind you.

Hey come on now, the fact that both teams made it to superbowl says something, neither team sucks and considering the fact that it was minus 4 degrees with a negative 24 windchill factor and both teams kept up the scores is amazing. It was a close game and either team had a chance at the end. I don't think I could of played a game like that when it was that cold...kudos to them!!!! We are huge Green Bay fans and bummed they didn't make it, but if the Giants can beat the Patriots I'm ok with that!!!!

I have to say the Giants have been playing above themselves the last few weeks. They actually gave the Patriots probably thier biggest challenge all year in the last game of the regular season and I think they have been the underdog in every playoff game they played this year and won them all. After beating both the Cowboys and the Packers at their place I don't think anyone can say they don't deserve to be there. It might be a good game if "Good Eli" keeps showing up as he has the last few weeks.

Yeah, as long as he doesn't get too preoccupied licking Oreos with Peyton.

"RE: Another Boring Super Bowl"

Aren't they all?

I was watching an episode of the "pigskin whisperer" and learned that all that ball wants to do is sit there all by itself anyway. It was perfectly happy doing nothing until a bunch of latent homo-erotic butt slapping closet cases had to start man-handling it and forcing it back and forth across the same boring spot.

Maybe if we spent 10% of that super-bowl money on education, we wouldn't have a nation full of idiots who can't even count out change, or think that LOTTO is the best way to get rich.

You could spend 100% of the money on education and still have some idiots and circular reasoners. So instead, let's enjoy some football!

We were planning an "Anti Super Bowl" party but when I learned that Trace Adkins is the half time entertainer, I think I will watch! Hopefully the commercials make it better too.
As much as I don't like either team, I would love to see the Patriots with a perfect season! Doesn't happen very often. Not a big fan of Tom Brady, but I really can't stand Eli.

Actually Tom Petty is the halftime entertainment. Should be better than the game.

Sorry- I don't know where I saw Trace Adkins! I should lay off the beer on Sundays! jk
I guess I better get back to my plans of the "Anti Super Bowl" party!

Yeah you guys are right because the week 17 game between those two was such a snoozer. Do some of you even watch football? Don't be haters because your teams didnt' make it.

Lucky!? I made that prediction after careful consideration of all of the pertinent factors regarding each team's offensive and defensive schemes while factoring in probable weather conditions, injury reports, turf conditions and the zodiacal signs of each player. Luck had nothing to do with it.

Buck,

Once again I am eating humble pie with a dash of crow for good measure. That had to be one of THE best Super Bowls I have ever seen. That amazing scramble from Eli and that catch to Burris. HOLY COW! Eli has earned the respect of many from this game. Sorry Tiki it looks like you were wrong.

I'll get back to my pie now.

I normal like more offense, but I must say it was an extremely good football game, Congrats to NY. It's a very good thing I'm too broke to bet in February.

I can't remember when I've been on the edge of my seat like that during a superbowl. Awesome game, and that Manning to Tyree pass was the wackiest thing I've ever seen. Should have known after that that it was destiny.

LOL, I was hoping this thread would be bumped up. Probably the greatest SuperBowl in history.

It is games like this that makes it great to be a Giants fan and a loyal fan. When you stick through all those crappy years and then something like this happens...simply amazing!

"Probably the greatest SuperBowl in history."

IMVHO, this was the 2nd greatest superbowl. The greatest was the Bronco's over the Packers.

Hehe, I was working as a security guard (my job in college) during the Broncos Packers Superbowl. One of the facilities guys brought in a little 1" TV and took pity on me and brought it up to the security desk so I could watch the game. Pretty soon we were joined by another facilities guy, another security guard, and a couple janitors. We drug some of the chairs from the lobby of the building back behind the security desk so we could all huddle around this tiny little TV. I'm sure if my boss would have come in and seen that I would have gotten fired, but if there was one thing I knew for sure it was that *he* would not be coming in to work during the Superbowl . It was a great game though.

Richard,

We are both bias with our opinions, but I don't see how you could possibly say that objectively. Even if I couldn't pick this game as the best the Bronco/GB SB wouldnt' even be in my top five.
Top
Posted by Chuck Schott (+1284) 15 years ago
Man are you wrong. If Green Bay Denver is not in the top five best super bowls Than I've been watching the wrong game. This was as good as that game just a different type of game.
Top
Posted by Jeremy Orthman (+434) 15 years ago
Chuck,

Out of curiosity, who is your team? No one is saying its wasn't a good game, and it is probably one of the best, but to say it's number one screams of bias.

Jeremy : I find the notion that one watches football "objectively" a little absurd. (Actually, a LOT absurd.)

Yes, I am very biased toward the Denver Broncos having been a fan since they lost in the Superbowl to the Cowboys. As a longtime fan who experienced the range of emotion with the 1980's Elway super-bowl appearances and losses, and finally seeing my team win the ultimate prize was a euphoric experience.

The "life-message" to daily do your best work and someday you too can be at the top, is very inspirational. I still get a lump in my throat when I watch reruns of that game. John Elway's perseverance in that game, in which inarguably the two best quarterbacks to ever play football, go head-to-head, is a constant and timeless reminder for me to work very hard and do my best in practicing my life's vocation.

So for me, it is the best super-bowl of all time because of all it represents, inspires, and symbolizes. Am I biased? Absolutely, and proudly so!

Jeremy,

Denver is my team and has been since I had season tickets in the late 70's when I lived in Denver, so I too have a Denver bias. That said it still has to rate in allmost any one's top 5 games to watch for the very reasons Richard sites above. I just remember too many blow outs and sleepers for it not to be in the top five. Have I seen them all?........All since the Jets & Baltimore. There have only been 12 or 13 games with a one score deficit.

FYI: Season tickets where $75.00 a ticket first tear 16 or 17 rows off the field NW goal line. How that has changed in the last 25 years. As I recall, that included 2 preseason, 6 season games and a bus ride to and from the game.
