DJanssen seems angry at many of the regular contributors on this site. That's too bad. Well, if Trump wins, he can be reassured that Trump will "root out the communists, Marxists, fascists and the radical left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country that lie and steal and cheat on elections,”

Nothing to worry about at all, coming from a former president and leading Republican candidate. Just normal, rational political talk. Hilter totally never dehumanized people by calling them "vermin".

MAGAtts know they are being lied to. They don't care. They just want to hate and fear something and blame something and the MAGA lets them do just that.

I got some cognitive dissonance when it comes to Trump. I cannot wrap my head around why a massive swath of the population can back someone that is so obviously full of crap. I think that is a problem, if I can't understand it, then I must be missing something.

While it is fun to pick on Trump and he's an easy target, I have this sinking feeling that we are all missing something. If we are going to simply paint the people who support him as drug users or idiots, then what does that say about such a large group of people? Is that accurate? I don't think it can be. Obviously making fun and pointing out his faults is not helpful in solving the problem of Trump, which only begs another question... What is the solution to this problem?

I do agree that at times this forum seems pretty misanthropic. That is to say that the people here seem convinced that the world sucks and there is nothing that can be done about it. Not exactly an inviting atmosphere. Additionally, I think it is so easy to point out how bad Trump is while ignoring all the faults of the Democratic party. It is pretty bizarre to just paint the other guy as the problem, when there is a problem currently sitting in power. And it is not just the White House, the current situation in government is kind of scary across the board.

I didn't really have a point. And to be clear, I'm not on drugs.

While Bridger would likely insist that correlation does not imply causation, I am imagining a Venn diagram with DJanssen's appearance on MC.com as being the center of overlapping events such as 4 inches of snow on the ground at Coalwood, below freezing temperatures, the sale of this years calf crop, and a sale at the Broadus IGA on Old Crow Whiskey.

If I have learned anything here it is, in the words of Neil Degrasse Tyson, "You can't use reason to convince anyone out of an argument that they didn't use reason to get into."

I don't get the 9 oh 6 reference. I think people fled from this site because it is overwhelmingly one side in a city and state that is pretty much the other. Additionally, I would make it more about Miles City or at least the state of Montana. This site used to be awesome and a source of news and at least satire about community happenings. It seems to have devolved into anti-trump and conservative bashing.

I would reach out to the radio stations and the newspaper and see if there is a way to partner with them. Get in with the Community College and get some inroads with college students that might be interested in journalism or even meme creation. Maybe a little networking and find creators from the area that could or would create content for the site. The greatest advantage this website has is that it is a public forum for Miles City. The negativity has got to go though, and I don't know if there is a solution to that.

The local newspaper (what's left of it) and radio stations see this site as their competition. They make no money off of this site... and neither does anyone else, for that matter.

You want pro-Trump material on the forums? By all means, please post it, but be prepared to defend your point of view.

If you look at the RECENT TOPICS list on the main page, the topics are overwhelmingly Miles City or Montana related -- news, sports, history, memorials.

But please, start a thread... your own thread... and tell us about what's new and exciting in Miles City. Tell us about how the community is thriving and what makes you excited to live here.

In the meantime, I'm going to continue to give Trump and his supporters the poop they rightfully deserve on this thread.

I think Joe Biden should do the country a favor and either die or end his candidacy for reelection. He's a doddering old fool now and needs to go.

Trump is a treasonous, narcissistic, sexist pig who should be in jail.

Ron DeSantis is an idiot who make Gore and Dukakis look charming and charismatic by comparison.

Pence, sorry no balls.

Other Repubs - see above.

Maybe Nikki Haley. There could be hope there. She needs to spend time with Liz Cheney.

All in all. Really bleak.

“He's a doddering old fool now and needs to go.”

I’ve said all this before but evidently it needs repeating. What has the doddering old fool been doing for the past two plus years? He managed to put together the NATO countries to stymie Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine. Biden had the balls to end the longest war in U.S. history and his policies, have bolstered NATO so that, hopefully, Putin may now understand and is not so dumb as to attack a NATO country next. Such attack would result in our joining the fray and probably WWIII. Biden has shown that democracy can still deliver as authoritarianism and fascism rises abroad and here.

Through Biden’s efforts the unemployment rate stands at 3.4 percent — the lowest it’s been in over 50 years. Inflation is moderating. Regardless of all the doomsday predictions after the pandemic, our economy is dynamic as a result of the bold investments made by the Biden Administration’s American Rescue Plan. Biden has assembled an impressive legislative record. Using his decades of experience, Biden managed to navigate a 50-50 Senate to pass a historic bipartisan infrastructure bill, generational investments in clean energy and semiconductor manufacturing, the first gun safety law in almost 30 years, a bill codifying same-sex marriage, a bill aiding veterans who suffered health effects from burn pits and an electoral reform to prevent a repeat of Trump’s attempt to use Congress to overthrow the government.

1. I have repeatedly asked the conservative "lurkers" here to help us understand their perspective. Why do they support the candidates they support. I don't understand the appeal of Greg Gianforte, Matt Rosendale, or Ryan Zinke. Why would you not vote for Steve Muggli. Apparently, they ain't talking. I find this unfortunate.

2. Others have attempted to start their own sites using many of the suggestions you have outlined. They mostly turned into the rambling adventures of Robocarrot. There is also MC Chatter on Facebook if you are low on drama and estrogen.

3. What you characterize as "negative" and "conservative bashing" can be life altering, IF you are willing to try and understand what other people are saying and have the intestinal fortitude to examine your own beliefs. Unfortunately, most people listen to respond, not listen to hear and understand. Personal introspection is a lost virtue in our society.

4. I think the majority of the remaining regular posters here are late baby boomers or GenXers. I'd like to think we all have a little thicker skin and mindset than younger generations. This idea can be summed up antidotally as follows:

Taylor Swift sings whiney songs about all of her ex's. Stevie Nicks makes her ex play guitar while she sings about what an asshat he is.

This site is one of the last bastions of responsible speech. You need to come here prepared to articulate and defend your position. Most of us have a low tolerance for whiners and BS. I find it unfortunate you want to characterized that mentality ad "negativity".

Wow. If that is true then I'm concerned for the management of all parties involved. I worked in radio in Miles City for years and I never viewed this site as a competitor. I would post about my upcoming events and shows on this site because it only makes sense to do that.

If you look at the RECENT TOPICS list on the main page, the topics are overwhelmingly Miles City or Montana related -- news, sports, history, memorials.

Fair point. I was wrong.

The irony of this quote is that a few sentences later you say this.

IF you are willing to try and understand what other people are saying and have the intestinal fortitude to examine your own beliefs. Unfortunately, most people listen to respond, not listen to hear and understand. Personal introspection is a lost virtue in our society.

I mean seriously, if you are admitting cognitive dissonance and also holding that people need to work on solving disequilibrium, it kinda seems like you should take your own advice. I also don't understand the appeal of Trump, but I would very much like to, because otherwise it is unintelligible to me, and I don't like not knowing.

This site is one of the last bastions of responsible speech. You need to come here prepared to articulate and defend your position. Most of us have a low tolerance for whiners and BS. I find it unfortunate you want to characterized that mentality ad "negativity".

For someone that champions the idea of looking inward and understanding someone else's position you seem completely lost on the fact that most Miles City people view what you call "low tolerance for whiners and BS" as negativity.

I do want to be clear that I'm not bashing this site. But it does aggravate me that this "last bastion of responsible speech" seems completely unopen to any dissenting views or unpopular opinions.

I am conservative, if that means I want less government and not more of it. I would have voted for Trump in 2016, not because I was a hardcore fan but because I was sick of the government machine and I was at least curious how an outsider would impact that machine. I changed my tune in 2020 when it became obvious that things could get so much worse than it was previously and when it became clear to me that Trump wants to be an authoritarian dictator and not to preside over a nation with a written set of laws.

However, Joe Biden is also awful.

If people can come here to get information for free, why pay for the newspaper?

If advertisers direct their advertising dollars to this site, it takes advertising dollars away from other media.

There is no management to speak of on this site. If people conduct themselves reasonably, follow the site rules, it's an open public forum.

It seems like the webmaster hardly looks at the site anymore. To be honest, I don't have high hopes for the site being around much longer. As the Internet Service Provider that hosts the site deprecates the services it's based on, I'm not sure the webmaster will be willing to invest any time into updating the site to keep it running.

I do want to be clear that I'm not bashing this site. But it does aggravate me that this "last bastion of responsible speech" seems completely unopen to any dissenting views or unpopular opinions.

This has NOTHING to do with any history of Joe Biden. It is 100% an assessment of who is CURRENTLY in position to be elected to the Presidency of the US.

One- a criminal. Attempted treason. Fraud. Rape. Pedophile. Theft of Classified documents and cover-up. etc etc etc

Two- An ancient old doddering white old boy who needs to stop now and start showing up at functions and promotions. He's TOO OLD!!

There was a time when age was respected as bringing wisdom. We looked to our "elders" for leadership across many cultures. I look at what Joe Biden has been able to accomplish and his abilities for negotiating difficult situations. I sometimes wonder if "age" is the only rock people can find to throw. I look at the likely alternative and I really have no question as to my decision. Of course, I'm getting older, too.
