Federal government shutdown

The federal government will shut down in a couple of days because of the House Republicans. What did the House Republicans do today to avoid this crisis?

They held a Biden impeachment hearing. No evidence of any wrongdoing was uncovered by today's hearing.

The Freedom Caucus (hello Matt Rosendale) says they are holding the shutdown crisis hostage as they want to curb government spending. Yet they have not offered any specific proposals on how to do this. The last government shutdown, which lasted 35 days under Trump, cost the taxpayers billions of dollars. Huh?

Meanwhile, the Republican presidential candidates are blaming the Democrats for letting the tax cut expire this year for individuals. Which is hilarious, since the Republicans passed that tax cut in 2017 and made the individual tax cuts temporary and the corporate tax cuts permanent.

Yet people still vote for Republicans. Its mind boggling.

Repugnicans hate and fear and blame the same people their supporters hate and fear and blame. Actual governance doesn't enter into it.

Congratulations to Kevin McCarthy and other moderate Republicans in the House of Representatives in forming a coalition with the Democrats to pass a stopgap measure to avoid shutting down the federal government.

Now is the time for Republicans to take back their party from the wingnut faction of their party, which includes useless asshat Maryland Matt Rosendale. The Freedom Caucus will vote this week to remove McCarthy from the speakership. It's time for those moderate Republicans AND the Democrats to retain McCarthy, as our country is more important than political parties.

If Matt Gaetz (the most punchable face in American politics) goes forward with the motion to vacate McCarthy as speaker of the House, it will be interesting to see what the Democrats decide to do.

Should they let it play out, not interfere, and allow McCarthy to be removed? Then we would get to witness another 2-week circus of the Republicans trying to choose a new Speaker. And let the dysfunction and idiocy of the "freedom" caucus continue?

Or, should Democrats vote against the motion, saving McCarthy's speakership, effectively decapitating the "freedom" caucus, making them irrelevant?

I lean toward option #2, but then again, McCarthy is a weak, spineless, disingenuous $hitbag, and it would be nice to see him gone.

Hopefully, Gaetz will get expelled from Congress when the House Ethics Committee releases the report of his child trafficking.

Can't argue with your points, Tommy. But I would prefer the government to become functional again over the enjoyment I would have eating popcorn as the House Republicans crap all over themselves once more.

I think Matt Rosendale is the most punchable face in the house.

Some of you MC.Com lurkers need explain to why you voted for Rosendale, Gangreenforte, etc. Do you want the government shut down? Are you happy with the dysfunction? Are you secretly into red Caesarism? I honestly want to understand. Unlike others here, I don't think of you personally in the same way as you are being represented by the people you have voted into power.

There is some opinions floating around that it's the fault of the Democrats in the House that Kevin McCarthy was removed. Ridiculous. It was the fault of the chaos MAGA conference, including Maryland Matt. All they care about is publicity and social media clicks, the county be damned. These morons have no idea how to govern in good faith.

Honestly, I kind of wish the Democrats would have saved his bacon. But the motion to remove can be submitted an unlimited number of times. So it would have been pointless.

Now, Gym Jordan is probably going to be the Speaker. How can someone who is in violation of an official subpoena from the House, be Speaker of the House? Just more chaos and idiocy from the GOP.
