Storing bound copies of the Star

The new owners of the Star want to get rid of the morgue of old bound copies of the newspaper. I was expecting this. Now to try and find a place to store them. They need a certain amount of temperature control because frost and old paper are not friends. I assume Stardust and my history column will also be gone soon. I hoped to make 25 years but I guess not.

That's not cool. I'm sorry to hear this.

How large of a space is needed? What does Adams Publishing Group intend to do with the space that's currently being used? Did APG buy the Star building on Main St? Do the Star employees (what's left of them) still work in that building?

Just some ideas:
Miles City Public Library
Range Riders
MCC College Library
Mt. Historical Society
Mt. State Library

How big of volume are you talking about? It would be nice to keep it nearby so that research on local history and events could be done here.

The whole Star takeover sucks. Why did they buy a paper just to push it into oblivion? Perhaps just a tax write-off.
Though the Star had declined over the years, Nothing compares to what it has become since the takeover. It is not the only paper that was part of the buyout. They all are suffering.

Range Riders doesn't have space. MCC has neither space nor desire to have them. State Historical Society has never expressed interest in the Star. They haven't even digitized them. We are hoping we might get them into the MC Public Library but that will take time.

The new owners didn't buy the building. They are trying to find a smaller space to rent but have had no luck. The whole mess with the presses and the paper and the ink and the print shop would take hours to explain.

Newspapers are a dying industry. Problem is, nothing had come along to replace them so information is now scattered.

How much space is needed?

Ursuline Convent?

And shame on the new owners of the Miles City Star for having no respect for the institution they acquired or the community they've been entrusted to serve.

A lot. And a floor that can support the weight. Morgues are in the basement for a reason. Sharon and I looked them over and we don't have room, either. Remember, these papers go back over a century.

Might work at the library. May have to install humidifiers and it might be tight but we are working on it.

Amorette, you should think about starting a Fund Me whatever for this. I'm sure many of us former residents would contribute.

Perhaps a donation to the Miles City Public Library Foundation directed specifically toward this project.

Might do that once we get the details worked out. What fits? How will we move them? That sort of think. Stay tuned!
