On December 2022, Montana Dakota Utilities (MDU) filed for a rate increase with the Montana Public Service Commission (PSC). This proposal increases rates by 19.2% for residential electricity customers, 15.1% for small businesses, and 12.9% for large businesses. By MDU’s calculations, this will increase electricity bills for the average residential customer by over $200 a year and drain $10.5 million out of Eastern Montana communities.

On Wednesday, May 3rd at 6:30 pm Dawson Resource Council is hosting a town hall meeting in Miles City to inform the public and join together to fight the MDU rate increase. Join us to learn more about the rate increase and get your questions answered. There will also be time to write comments to the PSC telling them: "Do NOT approve MDU's rate hike!"

*Note - this rate increase is coming from MDU's out of state executives and Wall St. investors, not from local employees who work hard to keep our lights on and homes heated.

I did send in a comment letter objecting to the increase in December. Here's a link to a fact sheet that may be useful: https://drive.google.com/...MZkfd/view

Northwestern Energy is just as bad here in Billings. My bill for my TINY apartment is over $100 a month. It is insane.

One would think the PSC would deny this request.

After all, the PSC commissioners are all Republicans and care more about the consumers than the energy corporations, true?

And its going to get better for the consumers. Today’s Gazette revealed that the constitutional office of Consumer Counsel will now be under the control of the Republicans. The CC was established to insure that a bipartisan consumer representative, with funding to hire experts to examine rate requests, would represent and assist consumers. In the future the CC will be available to assist the utility companies with their rate increases before the Republican Public Service Commission. Let the cash register ring and the angels sing!
