I was visiting with an old drinking buddy about my favorite drinking place in the known universe, the Montana Bar. We frequented it a lot in the 70's. We were trying to remember who owned it then. He seems to think it was an attractive blonde gal. I keep thinking it was some older guy. Any help would be appreciated

It's my understanding that Ray Schmidt Jr. purchased the Montana Bar from Florence Kenney in 1977. Florence owned the Montana after the passing of her husband, George Kenney, who had owned the bar for many, many years.

At the time Ray purchased the bar, Florence Kenney (who was in her 80s) was living upstairs in the Montana Bar building.

Ray subsequently sold the Montana Bar to Dixie Strid in 1978.

The time period we were talking about would be up to about 77, as that was when I moved to Minot. Was Dixie a Blonde? Ray Schmidt did have some blonde sisters If I remember right

I don't know if I ever met Dixie. The Montana was allegedly leased by Jim Burnett, Wayne Olson, and Dave Parent from 1957 to 1977.

I know Jim actually tended bar there. Not sure about the other two guys.

I think Parent worked there don't remember for sure. I think Burnett had a younger sister named Ava? but she was not blonde but brown haired. I thought I heard Cody Colvin had something to do with the bar later on.

I think Ava is one of Jim's daughters.

I believe Currie Colvin purchased the Montana from Watering Hole Inc., which I believe was Terry and Deborah Hanson. Currie sold the bar to the current owner, Blake Mollman.

What you say is right. It was Currie not Cody. Same with Burnett.
