My twenty-something nieces have less rights than I did at their age. We are barely hanging onto something like a democracy as we slide into true banana republic status. And tRumpublicans want a full-on fascist dictatorship.

A reading of the Affirmative Action Black Justice’s concurring opinion is an indication of just how far this insanity may go. His opinion is an invite to those who dislike same sex marriage, homosexual activity and even contraception to bring it on. Like abortion, the last fifty years, those activities are now free from governmental intrusion with their protection based upon substantive due process rights. Maybe we’re on the road to sharia law where homosexuals can be imprisoned or put to death and women can be punished severely for the use of contraception.

I wonder why he did not include Loving v Virginia in his meanderings. After all there are some extreme conservatives (possibly some of his cohorts on the Supreme Court) who would think that his marriage is not a constitutional guarantee.

I have to wonder how those folks who couldn't be bothered to go vote for Hillary back in 2016 are feeling today. Now we have an extremist Supreme Court and a county where guns and corporations have more rights than women. Maybe one silver lining is that Democrats and Independents will go and vote in the mid-terms. Not counting on it.

I look forward to seeing all of the great social programs that the "pro-life" Republicans are going to pass to help all of the extra children who are born into poverty.

Like me, the search feature of this site has old timers disease. I KNOW I've used the words Theonomy and Theocracy in a response to Rick K. I can't find the post. He can apologize any time now.

Anyhoo, based on what happened last week, our "supreme court" has gone full in on establishing a theocratic state. (Average Seabecks pizza is more supreme that these nine jokers.) About the only thing left is to dress all of the women up like Justice Handmaiden (who I would bet big money played the virgin mary in every grade school christmas play). Ugh!

"What’s becoming clearer over time is that the Trump-era GOP is hoping to use its electoral dominance of the red states, the small-state bias in the Electoral College and the Senate, and the GOP-appointed majority on the Supreme Court to impose its economic and social model on the entire nation—with or without majority public support."

"As measured on fronts including the January 6 insurrection, the procession of Republican 2020 election deniers running for offices that would provide them with control over the 2024 electoral machinery, and the systematic advance of a Republican agenda by the Supreme Court, the underlying political question of the 2020s remains whether majority rule—and democracy as we’ve known it—can survive this offensive."

"the MAGA movement’s long-term goal is to tilt the electoral rules in enough states to make winning Congress or the White House almost impossible for Democrats. Then, with support from the GOP-appointed majority on the Supreme Court, Republicans could impose red-state values and programs nationwide, even if most Americans oppose them. The “MAGA movement is not stopping at the borders of the states it already controls,” Podhorzer writes. “It seeks to conquer as much territory as possible by any means possible.” "

Yup.

And the wall is to keep us in, NOT keep them out. Time to move to Mexico or Costa Rica while moving still allowed. The coming theocracy will be brutal.

What you say, sounds like you've been defeated quite early. The pendulum always swings, god help up us if it stands still!

I'm wondering just how far the Republicans will want to take the ongoing insanity. The Supreme Court has agreed to hear an appeal from North Carolina Republicans that could drastically limit state court's authority over congressional redistricting, as well as elections for Congress and the presidency.

The outcome of this case could put an end to our democracy. This is no joking matter. The Republicans do not care about democratic principles. They intend to continue gerrymandering congressional and legislative districts in the various states. The plan is to remove the vote from the body public. This was attempted by them in 2020. I don't know how you feel, but if candidates are elected and then state legislatures reverse the election results, I will be more than pissed. It could lead to violence and a dangerous break down of our society.

Unfortunately, sometimes political violence IS the answer. Minority rule rarely ends well.
