Switching from cable TV to antenna
Posted by Mike Freeman (-15) one year ago
With Midrivers quitting cable TV it might be of interest to many about how to switch to an antenna. What kind works best in MC? Big ones? Little ones? Rabbit ears? How do you hook one up? How many channels can we receive? If using big outdoor one, how high does it need to be mounted? This seems a worthwhile topic to discuss. Anyone have ideas? Information?

Antane will pick up may 1 or 2 stations from Billings, doubt they would be clear, pretty much worthless. I have internet through CenturyLink, then Wi-Fi my Roku TV off the internet and watch hundreds of movie & news channels free, including Billings, Bozeman, Missoula and other tv channels.

Roku tv is widely available, as well as Roku devices that can be hooked up to existing tv's. I have saved thousands of dollars going this route, with internet only and no cable TV bills.

Your milage may vary as CenturyLink customer service in Miles City is pretty pathetic. Once hooked up, all is well, getting initial service hook up is not ver easy.

I have a cheap set of rabbit ears from Walmart, and get about 10-12 stations over the air here in MC. As the stations are all digital, they come in very clear. You will need a digital tv or a converter box for an older tv.

Considering all the info I have been able to find I settled for a small indoor antenna from Walmart. Also bought a different TV that has "free" LG channels but have to use WiFi data to watch those. If we want much of anything to watch it appears we have go cough up the big buck for one of the satellite dish programs. Tired of being ripped off so will settle foe what we get with the antenna, only 8 channels.

As long as you can watch the Denver Broncos, you are all set.

Buy a Firestick. YouTube Firestick and learn how to get more tv than you're able to watch. YouTube or Reddit provide Plex share threads with so many offers for sharing libraries. You will need stable internet service to stream.

Roku fire stick will give you access to massive amount of TV for minimal charge. I wish I had stuck to that instead of getting dish too, but I don't make all the decisions.
