Building at corner of 8th and Bridge
Posted by Berta (+32) one year ago
Does anyone remember the two-story white building that sat on the southwest corner of 8th and Bridge--across from City Hall. I believe it was a hotel/apartment building, until maybe the mid-late 50s. The Wilkins family lived there and I think the mother managed it.
On another path, does anyone remember a Hawley Hotel in the early 50s?
So many memories surfacing these days, and no one to ask about them.
Thanks.

The Hawley Hotel building looked quite nice in the picture--thank you for posting it. If you have any more pictures/post cards of old buildings in Miles City, we would appreciate it if you would post them on here. I was born (1951) and raised in Miles City, however, I do not remember these old buildings.

Thanks! I believe the Hawley Hotel was on Main, across from the city park, right?

Yes, I believe that is correct -- north side of the 400 block of Main St.

You can see the Hawley Hotel with the red roof in the lower right of this post card.

Also you can barely make out the building that used to stand at the SW corner of 8th and Bridge. It's obscured by trees. Not sure when that building went away but it has been a vacant lot for at least 4 decades.

Here's an old Miles City post card that better shows the building that once stood at 8th and Bridge St.

I am Fred South and I recall that building as a rooming house. My Great Grandmother, Mary Hamilton-Ducello was involved with it after her husband left her and her two children alone in Miles City. My Grandmother, Sarah Elsie Wilson-Duce4llo, told me that she was a cook and housekeeper in that building. I walked passed it many times. Lived in Miles City from 1942-1956.
