Here is an image of the Custer County Court House in about 1884 that was sent to me by Gary Coffrin. Gary worked on cleaning up the old photograph a bit.

It was a nice looking building.

Not 100% certain but I think it was in the same general location as the current court house.

The current courthouse was built in front of the original courthouse, which was then torn down and the bricks sold for a penny each.

ETA: The architect was Byron Vreeland, who did my house. My house is the last example of Vreeland's popular 'center pavilion' design remaining. According to the State Historical Society. That bit that sticks out in the middle, in other words.
