Covid-19 is here

Custer County's first case of covid-19 was reported yesterday. Two more cases were reported today.

Is anybody going to start taking coronavirus seriously? Interested in wearing masks in Miles City?

I wear mine when it is hard to avoid being less than 6 feet away from other people. I was about to rant but thought better of it - I do share your apparent frustration at folks acting as if the crisis has passed just because a few more things have opened up. Mostly I plan to hide out in my house again until there appears to be a handle on just how big our outbreak is.

Any reports of who the cases are? I am guessing 6 new people, it likely a cluster.

Which bar do they all hang out at?

I barely saw anybody who wasn’t an employee wear a mask at Walmart. People didn’t seem too keen on social distancing either (they’d just sneak past you). Maybe this will be a wake-up call (or maybe not).

"bh's" link says 11 cases in Custer County now. Have no doubt, this virus is highly contagious.

Eleven confirmed and if they shopped at Wal-Mart, all southeastern MT is doomed.

Yes if the owner of the office would have self quarantined and stayed home when they knew they were exposed and then sick others would not be sick!!!!

What is the proper protocal when a person comes up positive for Covid-19? I suppose the health officials have the infected person list everyone that they have been in close proximity with so they can be tested too.But lets just say that the infected person remembers he/she was in in close contact unexpectantly with a group of strangers at location X the day before last at a certain time.I understand the need for privacy, but maybe there should be a public announcement "Anyone who thinks they might have been at location X at blank thirty day before yesterday, you may have been exposed to Covid-19.Please contact the Health department" I dunno...just food for thought....

The Billings Gazette is reporting:

Custer County should revert to Phase 1, health officials say

The county health board and health officer have "strongly recommended" that for the next two weeks, "all local businesses, athletics, community events and assemblies return to the restrictions we had in place under Phase 1 of the Governor's Directive for re-opening the Big Sky."

This. I think it should be a requirement to wear masks in public like what California's doing. People in Eastern Montana don’t seem to think much of COVID.

I agree Miles Town Native. I don't know who it was and don't much care, but the rules didn't seem to apply. I guess when you are pillar in the community, it is justified to conduct your important business and bring in the crud. After all your priorities come before the well being of everyone else, right?

I'm sure the good citizens of Custer County would like to see more testing. Unfortunately, the President of the United States disagrees. If you don't test, the number of cases will stay low! NOT a stable genius.

A sad update: Latest stats say Custer County now has 23 reported cases...and Dawson County (Glendive) now has 3. Going north, Richland County (Sidney) now has 9 cases...not sure how new those are.

https://dphhs.mt.gov/publ...mographics

When Dick started this particular thread, he asked: "Is anybody going to start taking coronavirus seriously? Interested in wearing masks in Miles City?"

My answer to that - and by no means am I saying this is an acceptable excuse - is that Miles City's small-town mentality of: "we're out in the middle of nowhere isolated in the plains where not may outsiders want to go. That's it's own protection from the virus". Because of that thinking, It doesn't occur to most of them to take the precautions those in more populated areas (such as the Twin Cities, where I live, for example) have been taking...and not everyone here is wearing masks, either. Lo and behold, one asymptomatic worker from out-of-state comes to Milestown to work a gig and brings the virus with him and, well, here we are.

What's most saddening to me right now is that I cannot come back to Miles City for the foreseeable future to check-up on and visit my folks and my uncle due to the risk of bringing the virus with me since I live in a more-populated area with higher numbers of cases.

Rumor is a family member went to Billings and came home to go to family events and work and boom. Here we are.

I see very few people in a day, my husband even less, and we wear our masks. I am amazed at the elderly people who don't but I assume they watch Faux News and are brain dead anyway.

I’d say Glendive is worse. A local car wash is still hosting an event with no mention of social distancing... and 83 people are interested!
