1944 miles city

I'm a historical fiction writer and am working on a novel set in Miles City in 1944. I would appreciate any information anyone can provide relating to retail stores in town, areas for recreation outside of town, city officials (mayor, sheriff, fire chief, etc.

If you have photos, or a site with access to photos, that would be an added bonus.

If you know anyone who lived in Miles City in 1944 and still does, I would love to get in touch with them.

Hopefully, I will be able to get out there soon. Thanks so much.

I write the Stardust column so am reading 1944 newspapers every week. I can list hotels, restaurants, grocery stores, etc. I just had cataract surgery so my vision is wonky right now but I'd be glad to help as best I can.

I can tell you that the Fire Chief of Miles City was George Aitchson in 1944.

Sam Keyes was mayor. The bombing of the Yellowstone was the big event of '44. In late August of 1944, the Ten Cent Drug had a sale on lice killer for chickens; the Sweetheart bakery in the Masonic Temple building was advertising lemon eclairs, apple turnovers, chocolate brownies, butterscotch brownies and bran muffins; and there was a new chef at the Crossroads Inn.
