Proposed Colstrip Commune

The thread Hal started on how Kinsey began as a Federal government communist project to create a farmer commune makes me think about the current bill in the Montana state legislature to turn Colstrip into a similar commune.

I can't say I am in favor of bill to subsidize a few workers at the expense of the ratepayers. Glad to see some Republicans coming out against this form of socialism.

Has anyone thought to enlist Donald Trump's help in saving Colstrip? It could be the pillar of his 2020 campaign.

Now it is being used to Blackmail Votes for Medicaid Expansion renewal. Either or. We will find out on Monday whether or not 98K people will be losing healthcare. Moral versus Money. The Colstrip issue dumps a lot of expense on Montana people.

I propose that we amend the Colstrip bill, and let the ratepayers subsidize the community, but everyone who works as a miner or a power plant worker and gets a paycheck thanks to this bill also has to complete 80 hours a month of community service.

Come to think of it, every farmer or rancher who receives a paycheck from the federal government should also be required to perform 80 hours a month of community service. Let's let our congressional representatives know our opinions on this welfare nonsense.

I hope you're right, Snowy. We could stand some higher quality cashiers at the Town Pump.

Which reminds me of a true story. Last year I went into one of our Town Pumps. They keep their bait fridge behind the counter. I asked for a dozen night crawlers. The local yokel behind the register, a guy looking to be in his mid 20s, stares blankly at me, then proceeds to started piling 12 styrofoam containers of worms on the counter. I start laughing and he gets mad. "How am I supposed to know how many are in these things?"

Couple of weeks later, I am off to go fishing again. Stop by the same store, same guy working. I request, "A carton of night crawlers, please." He goes to the fridge, and pulls out a cardboard box full of styrofoam worm containers. I start laughing again, he gets mad and says, "What! You asked for a carton, this is a carton."

I think a Mexican can do better.
