The Billings Gazette was reporting that the bitter cold was causing the USPS to suspend mail services in eastern Montana.

Is that true? It's currently 22F in Miles City. Chilly, but hardly grounds for canceling the mail.

What's the true story here?

Billings Gazette: Bitter cold suspends Eastern Montana mail services

Bitter cold will cause the United States Postal Service to suspend mail pick-up and delivery in Eastern Montana on Wednesday.

I saw this and had the same question. It's currently 14 in Sidney, 10 in Glasgow, and -7 in Minot.

The Post Office was open today. We mailed a package and had mail. Also, Joe picked up the paper this morning. We did hear that but maybe further East?

Our mail was delivered at the house as usual. Maybe it was a pre-emptive announcement and then the weather turned out to be milder than expected.

It would appear that the temps in Miles City haven't been nearly as frigid as they are here in Minnesota. Looks like the cold front we have here spared you: nearly -30 yesterday, -18 today. In this area, schools have been closed since Tuesday. We're anticipating they will open and resume tomorrow as it's expected to get above 0. We haven't had any mail service in the last couple days either.
