Grant's pool hall

Many of us fondly remember Grant's, except for our ladies, but who remembers when they moved the billiard table that sat up towards the front and built a large slot car track up front. I have wondered what ever happened to the track and some of the cars that were there. I believe it would have been maybe late 1965

I've wondered about the whole thing. I see a *ton* of Grant's tokens on eBay, there's almost always one listed, but have never heard a relative mention anything about the place.

I think Dad graduated in ~'61, so Mom would be ~'63? Maybe they were before it's time?

My family moved to town in '66. Grants was there for a while after that.

Mr. Reed made the best milk shakes in town. Mr. Lawlor was a great billard player and snooker was not my game. spent a lot of time there, slot track must have been late 65 or 66.

Grant's Pool Hall was Grant's and someone else as of 1917. Should be in this week's Stardust.

While waiting for the Daily Star to print the newspapers, paper boys went to Grant's.
I remember there was at least one snooker table which was a complete mystery to me. This was the 50s. Ron Hendrixon

As the statute of limitations has passed by now, I can relate that I know who robbed the safe at Grant's in 1959......it was during a celebration of the diamond jubilee, I believe. One was a tall person who was my cousin's cousin but not my cousin. The funny part was the were walking around clanking because of all the silver dollars they carried in their pants pockets.

Hung out in Grants while I was in high school (SHHS Class of 66). Once a few of us decided to play hooky on a nice spring day. We were in Grants and one of the priests (Father McInnis if I remember right) from SHHS came and captured us and back to school.
They had a drink I think was called a Green River. Can't remember what was in it but is was good.
When you wanted to find someone Grant's was one of the first places you would look.

Green River was an old timey soda. John Fogerty said it inspired him to name the song after it.

If I am remembering right. Grant's green river didn't come in a bottle. They would mix a couple of liquids and serve them in the paper cones in a metal holder. Maybe it was the same thing and they just mixed it. As I see you can still buy the bottles and the syrup on the internet.

Lots of old soda fountains used syrup and carbonated water. Not every town had a bottling plant for every pop.

Amazing how tiny a serving of soda pop used to be.

Lime and coke, if you add chocolate it was a muddy river.
