This is laughable at best, a gigantic waste of time at worst.
The House and Senate can't get anything meaningful or worthwhile done so they feel the need to waste time and taxpayer money on this nonsense. They realize they've lied to the American public and have no intention of leaving Iraq so they seek to divert attention from themselves and their failed time as Congressional "Leaders" and go after one of the people who "Forced The Vote" onto them six years ago.
Dennis Kucinich is the one howling for this the loudest and seeing as how his "Campaign" is, to put it mildly, floundering in the sea of election abyss I can see why he'd want to call attention to himself. Perhaps this will get him another vote or two, bringing his total, including himself to three.
So when the dust on this waste of time is all settled maybe they can get down to more important business such as:
Calling our soldiers wanton killing machines
http://www.bootmurtha.com...meline.htm
http://michellemalkin.com...e-marines/
Claiming the President is a sadistic monster
http://www.progressiveu.o...-amusement
Or
Creating needless friction with an ally

I disagree. Any number of hours that can be used to distract Democrats from doing something "for the children" results in a net savings for the country.
When Democrats are handcuffed by their own unwillingness to debate their members' loony proposals, America wins.

The vote to table the privileged resolution, offered by Ohio Democrat Dennis Kucinch, began as a largely party-line vote to kill the measure, but Republicans developed a strategy to force Democrats to debate the resolution by supporting Kucinich.
Bob,
Ok so let's see here. The Democrats want to bring this up for a vote and then when the GOP says "Ok we'll play your game." and bring about debate on the bill, as is standard procedure for various forms of legislation, you then accuse the GOP of "Wasting Time"? Interesting logic there.
So I guess by that line of thought whenever a bill by the Democrats is put forth it must be immediately signed into law sans debate. However when a bill by the Republicans is put forth it must go through committee after committee meeting and be subject to rigorous debate.
Interesting.

Since Cheney is almost single digits in the polls, who cares. Obviously most Americans don't, which is sad and a bad reflection on the administration.
from USA today pages.
Meanwhile, Bush reached an unwelcome record. By 64%-31%, Americans disapprove of the job he is doing. For the first time in the history of the Gallup Poll, 50% say they "strongly disapprove" of the president. Richard Nixon had reached the previous high, 48%, just before an impeachment inquiry was launched in 1974.

Both the president and vice president have generated some powerful karma. I don't feel there is much to do but sit back and watch it come in. What is supposed to happen will. Doesn't really matter what we think - it's going to happen anyway.
They did it to themselves. What they have been doing and are attempting to continue to complete is so far over everyone's head that it would give you a headache and nightmares if you ever heard the real truth. As I said the universe has a way of balancing and the energy those two have put out to skew the balance is coming back to them. It won't be pretty when it happens, but we are going to get to watch it for sure.

After reading the resolution to impeach the VP http://kucinich.house.gov...s/int2.pdf I think that the republicans should use such an event to set the record straight as to what REALLY happened/is happening in Iraq. One the truth is memorialized, the current leadership of the democratic party and the anti-homeland security crowd (code pink(o) and move-on.org) will forever be relegated to the ash heap of history. I say bring it on!

I am so disgusted with this government and this "form of government" that I could just heave. They have lost sight of the reason to be there. And I can not believe when they show reps giving a speech to the floor and there is no one there. Isn't that why they are elected? To BE THERE? AAAAHHHH it just pisses me off.
I do find it funny that the Repubs forced the hand on a stupid issue. Not that the concept doesn't have some merit, but like you all said before, it was all about attention. It's great they forced the hand.
But I also agree with Bob that the Repubs are forcing the waste of time.

Cory, you're missing the point here.
The Democrats bring this waste of taxpayer time and money to the floor but they don't want any debate on it. The Republicans call them on their bluff and, as is standard procedure for various forms of legislation, they debate the merits (actually the lack thereof) of said bill yet you then accuse the GOP of "Wasting Time"?
Perhaps you ought to look to Dennis Kucinch for bringing this to the floor. After all if it wasn't for him trying to jump-start his sagging (that's a big understatement there) political ambitions by introducing this to the House floor there wouldn't be anything for the GOP to debate.
As I said above, it seems that whenever a bill by the Democrats is put forth it must be immediately signed into law sans debate yet GOP legislation is immediately shelved.
Once again, interesting.

Kyle, I am not saying that only the GOP is wasting time. I think that the proper thing to do was to let this stupid, attention getting ploy die. However, I find it extremely humorous that Denny thought this would bolster him in some way and WOULD die. But the GOP upped the ante. I find it very amusing, but I do agree that it is a waste of time all the way around.

What's really interesting is there were 81 Democrats who all voted to debate Cheney's impeachment, but then had to change their votes after it became apparent they just might get their wish.
So basically the Democrats bluffed, got called on it, then had to fold. Now they're trying to blame Republicans for keeping them honest.

Let's follow your logic. When a Democrat introduced the bill, you decried it as a waste of time. When the Republicans vote AGAINST killing the bill, it's not a waste of time. INTERESTING LOGIC THERE.
So I guess by that line of thought whenever a bill by the Democrats is put forth it must be immediately signed into law sans debate. However when a bill by the Republicans is put forth it must go through committee after committee meeting and be subject to rigorous debate.
Wow. Where to start? I guess I'll suggest you buy a "Schoolhouse Rock" DVD. There's a short cartoon explaining how a bill becomes a law. It should be at your intellectual plane.

This thread is a stark representation of what politicians have done to this country and its populace.
This is what makes all, and I mean ALL of them money.
We should, as a collective group of concerned citizens, be wanting to impeach every single one of them. Republican and Democrat.

Resorting to insults rather than addressing the issue at hand? Nice debate tactic Bob.
The issue here is the colossal waste of taxpayer time and money that the Democrats seem to think they can play in an effort to divert attention from their failed campaign promises (remember their plan to get out of Iraq at all costs?).
Democratic Congressman Dennis Kucinich feels that he can waste the taxpayers time and money (and judging by his Presidential "Campaign" I can certainly see why he'd think that) by introducing this "Bill" to the House floor. Then when the Republicans decide to call their bluff the Democrats immediately cry foul and run for the hills.
I ask you this:
Who's wasting time here?
Is it the Republicans who did what some (again sans the Democratic party) would consider to be standard operating procedure by debating the bill or is it the Democrats for introducing this to the House floor in the first place knowing that it had a snowball's chance in **** of passing?
I can already guess your answer Bob but I'd like to hear it nonetheless.

Completely misrepresenting someone's statements. That's a great debate tactic, too.
To answer your question, both sides are wasting time. Easy enough.
BTW, it's not standard operating procedure to debate every bill that is introduced. You haven't watched the "Schoolhouse Rock" spot yet, have you?

I never said that it was. What I think is strange is that you seem to be faulting the Republicans for debating THIS bill when it was the Democrats who brought this waste of time to the floor to begin with
And for your information, yes I have seen "I'm Just A Bill".
But that was when I was in kindergarden some 25 years ago.

after yesterdays elections, this is an interesting new map emerging.

Posted by (+3716) 15 years ago
Uh, based on that map I would have to say that America is turning purple? A legend would be helpful.
Our election here was weak. Only the Mayor and 1 city council seat were on the ballot and the mayor was running unopposed.

I think the point was that amoungst normally blue and normally red states (blue being democrat and red being republican) this is now the color of the state based on how they are voting for state wide offices. So some of the traditionally red states are turning bluer thus the purple color.
Posted by (+9506) 15 years ago
Kyle - please don't confuse Dennis Kucinich in particular with the Democratic Party in general.
One has (usually) the courage of his convictions, and the other is scared that someone somewhere might say something bad about them.
It's been an altogether disappointing year, after starting out with such promise.

"So some of the traditionally red states are turning bluer thus the purple color."
The lesson is that when republicans run as "we can spend tax money too" they lose. When they get some spine and work for smaller government, lower taxes, more freedom they win every time.

I think political grandstanding and impeaching the vice president and such are a good use of the congressman's time. When they all get together and start passing laws is when they really do a lot of damage.

This reminds me of that little saying that goes something like:
Pro = positive
Con = negative
Progress is moving in a positive direction
What is Congress?

I don't have data on this, but I would bet big bucks that the budget deficit is inversely related to the amount of discord in congress/the white house. The Clinton budget surplus happened during the Republican revolution/Ken Starr/Impeachment mess. Then when Bush and the Republicans were in power during Bush's first term we had record deficits. This term the Democrats have congress and it's resolution after resolution tryign to make Bush look bad and tons of drama with very little results and surprise, deficits are way down.
I think I'm gonna vote for Al Sharpton next time around.
