From what I see & hear online Miles has been getting snow this winter. We had a decent snow cover up until Christmas. Then it warmed up enough to rain and then it cooled down. Then a warm up, freezing rain, and cool down. Repeat, repeat, repeat.

A couple Sundays ago I took this picture of driveway leading up to our garage.

We've got icy conditions in Seattle this morning. Schools are starting 2 hours late and school buses are on snow routes. I drove my son down to the bottom of the hill where his snow-route bus stop is. On the way he asked me if it was icy. I hit the brakes hard and we just slid. I crawled down the hill at about 2 mph. The high schoolers' two-hour-late bus was an additional 20 minutes late and still hadn't arrived. I half expect to see my son come walking back up the hill.

I have to take my daughter down to the elementary school bus in an hour... maybe the high school and middle school kids will still be waiting for their bus.

We're on our fifth snowday in a row here in Boise. It's crazy.

"Snowday" as in no school? If so, ouch. My kids are out of school too much as it is without snowdays. Last week was a 4-day week, next week is a 4-day week, the week after is "conference week" so the elementary kids have 3 "half days" (along with the usual early out Wednesday) and shortly after that is mid-winter break. It's rare that they go two weeks in a row without some sort of time off.

They had one or two days back after christmas break, and it's been snowdays since. Not enough snow-moving equipment in town - this is the most snow that Boise's seen in 30+ years.

Luckily I'm an empty-nester now (and we homeschooled before that), so it's been years since I had to bow to the the socialistic mandates from the faceless autocrats of the Boise School District.

Hal, did you do any ice skating on the driveway? Everyone from Miles skates right?

It's hard to skate while wearing ice cleats and I pretty much wear the cleats full time right now.
