Thanks Hal for sharing the article. Their Doppell Bock Sold as Bakken Bock is a good tasting dark beer. Maybe not up to the home brew standards that some tout, but I like it.

I’ve not had the douple bock since I lived in Missoula, but it was a darned tasty beer.

On summer, maybe 5-6 years ago, the little store here got in a small supply of Bayern Pilsner. That was always my favorite of Jürgen’s brews. It was a nice treat while it lasted.

The little store usually has Big Sky’s Moose Drool in stock, but I’ve never been a big Drool fan.

I had the Dragon's breath a couple summers ago when I was visiting Circle, MT. It was a good brew.

Interesting article. I did not know that was how Bayern got started. Nor did I know that they are now the oldest active brewery in the state.

The former Kessler brewery mentioned in the article was a great little brewery in its day. A couple of changes of ownership led to its demise. The last owner thought he could scrap brewing beer altogether, and focused on brewing non-alcoholic "craft root beer" and sell it for $6 a six pack. That did not work out so well.

I remember going to the Kessler brewery in the early 90s and buying cases of their "short fills" (bottles that weren't filled to minimum standards). Thirteen bucks a case for really tasty ale. Those were the days. I still have an unopened bottle of their 1989 Centennial beer somewhere in my basement.

As for Bayern, I agree that the doppelbock is awesome. My favorite Bayern beer is their spring seasonal Mai-bock. Not only is it delicious, I love the label.
