What do you think about roller derby? Any questions or concerns? I want to hear Miles City's opinion.

As a pun-gent, I think Michelle-on-wheels is a great womans' roller derby name.

Hallelujah
Here she comes
Queen of the roller ball
and Enchante!
What can I say
Don't care at all
You know she used to have to wait around
She used to be the lonely one
But now that she can skate around town
She's the only one

"The night that I fell in love with a roller derby queen
around and round, a round and round
The meanest hunk of woman that anybody ever seen
Down in the arena

She was 5 foot 6, two fifteen
A beach blonde mama with a streak of mean
She knew how to knuckle and she knew how to scuffle and fight
And the roller derby program said
that she was built like a 'fridgerator with a head
Her fans called her Tuffy, but all her buddies called her Spike

The night that I fell in love with a roller derby queen
around and round, a round and round
The meanest hunk of woman that anybody ever seen
Down in the arena" Jim Croce

Tucker, great minds think alike. I used to play this song all the time as a kid. And I loved the roller derby on TV. Here in Salt Lake there's a very successful roller derby league. It's flat track.

Wendy, there seems to be a resurgence of interest in roller derby. Two young women friends of ours are battered and bruised but ebullient over their new found inner bad ass. One is a beautiful, artist friend the other plays cello with our little group on Tuesdays. It is hard to imagine her as a Jammer, elbowing her way through the opposition on Saturday afternoons.

In the early sixties I wasted a lot of time watching our local, Long Beach team. Any time the opposition was the Oakland Devil Dogs and Dolls it seemed particularly exciting. Mostly because of the Amazonian blond blocker with big ones.

Roller Derby is HUGE back east right now. Little towns all over the place are starting up teams. Modern roller derby is not the banked track of yore, but flat track. Women from all walks of life are trying it out. A friend of mine is an on rink offical for the Queen City Roller Girls out of Buffalo, NY. His wife took him to a few games and then he decided to help out right away. His on-track name is "Free Bacon!"
