I ran a Wildcat BBS for a few years around '91-ish and sadly the technology seemed not much more advanced. I remember how cool the new color menu's were that were made with ANSI characters and blank spaces, opposed to the boring ASCI characters.
I remember how only one person could be signed on to a BBS at a time, unless you had multiple phone lines. And don't forget echo nets. Where all the Wildcat BBSs would call the farthest BBS away, that was still in your local calling area. That way they could echo an email to someone on the other side of the country without paying for any long distance phone calls. At the time it took about 4 days to get an email echoed across the country.
