Richard Clark Bonine, Sr., formerly of Miles City, left his earthly body September 6, 2016 as a result of cancer. He was born July 7, 1937 in Worland, WY to Buren and Helen (Healy) Bonine. Richard (or Dick as he was known to his friends) grew up on a ranch near Volberg, MT and later moved to Miles City. He graduated from Custer County High School in 1956. Dick attended colleges in Las Cruses, NM and MSU in Bozeman, MT.

On June 28, 1960, he and Jane Donahue were married in Three Forks, MT. They moved to the Pine Hills east of Miles City, MT where they started their family that would grow to include 13 children. He ranched in the area and later worked at Fort Keogh. The family moved from Miles City in 1997, lived in Thermopolis, WY, and settled in the Ryegate/Roundup, MT area in 2007.

Dick loved working with horses and was a steward of the land. He was a 4-H leader, FFA supporter, and a member of the Caledonian Society. He also had a strong affinity for Native American culture, was a gifted woodworker, and a licensed pilot. Dick loved to laugh and tell jokes, had a great love of music, and a deep spirituality.

His legacy is his family. Left to carry on this legacy is his mother Helen, his wife of 56 years, Jane, their 13 children: Richard Jr., Martha, Phil and Suellen, Barb and Max Holcomb, Sue and Jay Henderson, Greg, Duncan and Wendy, Randall and Jennifer, Russell and Nancy, Mary, Jon and Kristina, Brian, Gary and April, his 29 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, his sister Kathlyn Johnson, extended family members, and numerous friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2016 from 5:00-6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home followed by a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, September 12, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 120 N. Montana, Miles City, MT. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting: www.stevensonandsons.com.

It is with sadness that I read about your father's passing, Richard. Although I never knew him, in many ways he sounds like my grandfather and my father in his perspective and outlook. I am fortunate enough to still have my father, but remember all too well the sense of loss when my mother passed. You are never really ready to lose a parent. I do know that he certainly had much to be proud of in you. You and your family will remain in our thoughts and you have our deepest sympathy at this difficult time.

Richard and family,

I am so sorry for your loss. We were neighbors in the valley for a long time and I thought the world of your Dad when I was growing up there. I am thinking of you all during this tough time.

It's been a crappy summer (or year, for that matter) for mc.com posters - Linda Morgan Hardy (howdy) passed away last month as well

Oh no, about "howdy". Sorry to hear that.

Dr. John Sampsel passed away last weekend and I think there is at least one Sampsel "kid" who follows milescity.com.

Again, thanks to all for the kind words. They are much appreciated.

I also wanted to give a shout out to Stevensons and Sons. They did a great job. I particularly appreciate their willingness to go to Roundup to visit with my mom about arrangements.
