It’s that time of year, the beluga are coming up the Naknek River to feed on smelt and salmon smolt.

There are thousands of walrus (walrii ?) hauling out on beaches south of here. If I can get video, I’ll post it.

mmmmm.....Beluga caviar. Hal, are you going to whack one of those whales to get it's precious eggs?

No Gunnar - I'm not going to harvest one for eggs.

On occasion Alaska Natives do take one. It's very interesting to watch. I've helped with the butchering and processing - the eating part, meh. It's an acquired taste, I suppose.

Spring waterfowl season is underway though - this weekend I hope to get the skiff out and harvest some ducks and geese.
