A true loss to country music.

He was a man with integrity and pride.

He was a waver of the Confederate flag, while opposing the war in Iraq and being a proponent and friend to President Obama.

He was complicated, honest and talented.

A true loss indeed.

Saw him in concert in Tucson in the early 70s. Mama Tried is probably one of my favorite songs.

They re-ran a delightful interview with Mr. Haggard on NPR this morning. When asked what he learned from 'riding the rails,' he said "always take enough money for bus ticket." Or thereabouts. I recommend a listen.
