Nah. Richard was right.

I'm probably too fed up with the hokey Ohana facade out here in "Paradise" anyhow. I'm going to take a break for a bit.

Is that actually happening? I can't control how people vote. I guess I could change the way voting works if there is a problem. Some ideas that come to mind:

A. I could get rid of the "Dislike" button, so posts could only get likes. Or no likes. This would be the same as Facebook.

B. I could add rules for making voting available as a revocable privilege. Whatever those rules would be, users who didn't meet the criteria couldn't vote.

C. I could replace Like / Dislike with Up / Down voting, and instead of showing a tally of each, combine into 1 single number.

D. I could come up with some sort of weighted/reputation type system, where the weight of any particular vote is relative to the "reputation" of the user (which would have to be calculated by some formula).

Or ... ????

Or you could stop being so intolerant towards others and their views.
Maybe hold your comments from time to time.
Not running down Christians or Jews or Islam etc..., or calling someone else's God a fairy person.

Maybe label people that do bad things properly, not masking it with personal perception and conjecture.
Possibly read people's writing that is poor without telling them they can't write well enough to have any say so. If you can't read it, then don't respond. There are plenty of things you can do besides leave the site/ take your toys and go home.
It always helps to talk to people the way you want to be talked to, and most importantly, don't resort to calling names. I have heard cracker/mouth breather/privileged/ etc... All because I believe in a persons right to protectionism. If you don't believe in Nationalism or things like states right, that's cool with me, there's no need for your comment. Your name calling is a reactionary response to a perceived threat, so it lends my view credence. I say stop being threatened by the different views that people have, and more importantly, see your own biased and work on it before telling people about theirs.

Well, Larry, Dave, Thank you for everything. Keeping this thing going, for as long as I am aware of must be a real trial. Well, it seems to me that linear thinking has taken the reins, on both sides and there is not enough critical thinking going on to even imagine another side. The lines have been drawn in the sand

I don't know if anyone remembers fifteen years or so ago. I tried to get an "Utne Reader Coffee Shop" Vibe going. Remember the Limerick thread We started a Salon in Miles City to share ideas and discuss solutions. It was open to all and we really wanted a dialog. The first MC Independence Day Parade that had been seen in town, since the fifties grew out of that and is still rolling today. I know of at least two writing groups that germinated in that environ. Liberals and conservatives worked together and name calling was not welcome. I recall telling a young woman that her her business knowledge was naive. I was called on it. A brief conversation ensued and all was amicable.

To paraphrase a line from "The Holy Grail" "I was wrong, Patsy, Miles City is a silly place, let's go."

The following is blatant plagiarism from the same movie. It will be playing in my head as I gather my toys and load up my wagon. Thank you, the good memories outweigh the rest but goddammit, MC dot calm has become a bore.

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...
And...

...always look on the bright side
of life...
(Whistle)

Always look on the light side
of life...
(Whistle)

If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing
When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle
- that's the thing.
And...always look on the bright
side of life...
(Whistle)

Come on.

Always look on the right side
of life...
(Whistle)

For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain
with a bow
Forget about your sin - give the
audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance
anyhow.

So always look on the bright side
of death...
(Whistle)

a-Just before you draw your terminal breath...
(Whistle)

Life's a piece of poop, when you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true
You'll see its all a show, keep 'em laughin as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you

And...
Always look on the bright side
of life...
(Whistle)

Always look on the right side
of life...

C'mon Brian, cheer up

Always look on the bright side
of life...

Always look on the bright side
of life...

Worse things happen at sea you know.

I mean - what have you got to lose?
You know, you come from nothing
- you're going back to nothing.
What have you lost? Nothing.

Always look on the right side
(I mean) of life...

I think the like/dislike button is not working. It is based on WHO makes the post, not what the post SAYS. I asked about the Alta Club fire and got down votes. Not because they were opposed to history but because two people hate me for being a loudmouth atheist feminist.

They are welcome to hate me because I think differently than they do but voting down a post asking a factual question because they hate me is dumb.

And I await the down votes. Waves to Oddie and Brandied.

I think you should leave it the way it is. This is a free forum to post ideas etc on. You have to be expected to be criticized. If a person can't take it, don't post. The like/dislike buttons should stay. I sometimes like or dislike something so I hit the button either way. I could go on and post rants and raves about why I don't like it or why I do. Maybe the likes/dislikes would have the person who wrote the post to rethink his position if he sees a lot of dislikes.
I think some people post just to see how many dislikes they can get. To be argued with and disliked is their reward/orgasm.
I am a Wendy supporter when it comes to spelling and dictation. It doesn't have to be perfect but should readable.
Well that's my 2cents. Think I'll have a tall cool one

Notice that Oddie and Brandied got there first!

Fortunately for me, I don't care. I will continue to express my atheist feminist progressive liberal agenda and occasionally ask questions and expect to get down voted even if all I post is a casual mention of the weather.

Winter has been pretty tolerable round here so far.

I have liked daves and bridgiers comments when they made the more logical since, and even Gunners.

And the guy that posted earlier about the lines being drawn, lines can be moved. Centers can readjust. If the center happens to settle in the middle of far right and far left, I could accept that, could you?

I for one like this site, I can appreciate the time and effort that goes into designing and keeping a site going. The set up of the navigational buttons are well located, and the ads are nice. I do think the web master and many founders and members are not willing to admit where a centrist idea should settle. A good policy is a success, until it begins to override other great policies that preceded it.

Meaning that socialisms helps, until it undoes ones right to achieve what the content of their character will allow. It is now doing that. Proof is in the low labor participation rates.

It is pretty obvious that some dont really read the comments, all they look at is who was the poster. When I first joined this page I figured every one actually was living in M.C due to some of their comments. I was commenting on a certain issue that had to do with all the trash thats left along the dike and some of the comments had me scratching my head along with the thumbs down. Come to find out those commenters dont even live in MC, they live 300-400 miles away. Theres some that even bully or speak of one's parent which again they live 300-400 miles away. I dont really understand the whole Miles City.com thing beings its not ever really about MC. To them it's more lets see how many MC people can we belittle. If it is about MC.like the topic Golden Corral, they that dont even live here bashes the idea and makes unnecessary comments about it. I realize people can say what they want but more times then not there is those that are just looking for a battle.

I never use the buttons. Looks like à whole bunch of other people who object to your bigotry and intolerance. When something comes out of you that's so lame it's worth commenting on, you will see a response, not a vote.

It's not that. It's tension, be it here or IRL, or both, and for that I apologize.

Matter of fact, having been on here so long, maybe too long, it feels a lot like some folks jet skiing in my fishing spot, which you can probably relate to.

Doesn't mean that they're wrong, it just means that things are changing and I'll have to work out for me if I can go along with the changes or not.

Sorry Bridgier, but that is NOT a haiku due to the first line having 6 syllables instead of 5.

Bridgier's butthurt verse
does NOT follow Haiku style
such an epic FAIL
