The following letter to the editor was in the September 24, 2015, Miles City Star.
Seems like a great project. I wonder how the fundraising is going.
Wreath funds sought
Dear editor,
To remember, honor and teach about our Miles City-area
deceased veterans, the Miles City Elks Lodge will be spon-
soring the Wreaths Across America Program this year. The
Wreaths Across America Program is a national program
which places wreaths on veterans' graves throughout the
United States.
The wreath laying begins at Arlington National Ceme-
tery on December 12, 2015 in a ceremony followed by
wreaths being laid on veterans' graves throughout the Unit-
ed States. A ceremony at the Eastern Montana State Veter-
ans Cemetery, followed by the laying of wreaths in the cem-
etery, will coincide with the national ceremony at Arling-
ton. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend our
local ceremony.
The local Wreaths Across America Program is off to a
good start with $1,014 already collected last year. (As the
reader may recall, last year's donations to the Elks'
wreath program were not sufficient to purchase wreaths for all
veterans' graves.) As a result, our goal of raising $4,300 is
reduced by $1,014 with the application of last year's collec-
tion, which means that we need to collect $3,286 this year to
meet our goal.
If one chooses to donate a wreath for a veteran buried in
the Eastern Montana State Veterans Cemetery, please do so
by sending a $10 check or money order for each wreath to
Stockman Bank, 700 Main St., Miles City, MT 59301. Please
make your check or money order payable to the B.P.O.E.
Lodge #537 Wreath Program.
Our goal is to raise $4,300 by November 30, 2015. The
public can monitor the fund-raising status of the wreath
program by viewing the sign board located on the southeast
corner of our building at 619 Pleasant St.
Please help our community to remember, honor and
teach about those who have sacrificed so much for our
country by donating a wreath to the Elks-sponsored
Wreaths Across America Program. Thank you!
Remember, checks go to the Stockman Bank, addressed
B.P.O.E. Elks Wreath Program.
