We just removed a carpet and would like to know how to remove glued backing from the floor?

Is it a floor you want to expose/restore/refinish or something you just want to make smooth to cover back up again?

In any case, I would assume a tub of toxic chemicals, the appropriate gear to apply it, followed by lots of scraping - then repeat if necessary. After that, if it is hardwood to be exposed - a machine to sand/plane the floor - then refinish.

Try an orbital sander, with 60 or 80 paper first. Once you get through the glue and to the wood, then you may want to run over it quickly with a 120 or even 160 grit paper. It is time consuming, but this will do the trick.
