This will pay off!!!

I have posted in the past about the garbage that is being left on the River banks, pallets being left in the middle of the road, ski jets terrorizing those that are fishing from the bank, or some boats that have no respect for others. I must say that there are those boats that do know about respect and do their best not to make to big of waves when going by those on the banks, I understand that they have to keep speed up,however the ski jets are not that way. Some people look the other way when some of this stuff goes on however there are laws on the water just like if you were on the road ways. I will not give up on getting our river banks cleaned up and those that should not be on the waters off the water. I am not sure if this will get deleted but here is an example. We were down on the Yellowstone on the sand bar just south of where the boats are launched. 4 boats went by us doing there best not to wash us away and at the same time doing what they needed to do to get up the river( which was not only a sign of respect but showed they were true anglers. Here comes stupidity, he was driving a red Ski Jet which was pulled by a green Dodge, he had the whole river instead he came directly in front of us and kept going in circles and then weaving back in forth. The kids that were with us didnt understand what was going on. Its things like this that gets the unwanted attention of those that are looking at banning Jet Skies from the river. All in all we cant turn our heads away from all these issues,if we do eventually the banks will look like a dumping ground more then what they allready do and our recreation will be limited. I am not sure why no one else ever talks about these isues.

How would garbage on the banks of the river get jet skis banned from the river? Sorry about your bad luck fishing from shore, but again if you were right there and seen what they were riding and driving why not go and see what their reasoning was for going in circles right in front of you guys?

Cubby, I guess I didnt present that so well. The garbage left on the banks was just one of the many things that should and need to be addressed. As far as Jet ski goes that was meant to be one of the subjects that I was addressing. I would have yelled at the guy on the red ski jet and handled the situation however I had Special Kids with me so I elected to keep my composure. In the past I have confronted certain people that either left garbage on the banks or showed no concern on how they were operating their boats or ski jets and the safety of those around them, only to be told either to F off or live with it. I just think enough of turning a blind eye to this and lets start getting our recreation areas back to where we can be proud of them. I know theres different things one can do however after taking truck loads of garbage including wood pellets to the dump is not realy solving the problem. I dont want to see any one or anything banned from the river cause there are a lot of good people that live here or come here to visit that do care how they leave our river banks and the respect they showed others while on the river. I dont know if any of you have drove down the dike and looked at all the garbage, wood pellets, and the fire pits that some people made right in the road way of some of the accesses but its getting worse. How much longer are WE gonna let this go on?.

Cry me a f'ing river (made a funny there) and call Fish and Game, instead of bitching complaining about it on here.

From the Fish and Game Website. Please pay special attention to the third bullet point. http://fwp.mt.gov/recreat...Rules.html:
Restricted Areas - General
•Do not anchor in a position that obstructs a passageway ordinarily used by other vessels.
•Do not operate your boat within 20 feet of the exterior boundary of a designated swimming area marked by white and orange buoys.
•Do not operate a boat within 75 feet of a person engaged in fishing or hunting waterfowl unless it is unavoidable. If unavoidable travel at no wake speed or at the minimum speed necessary to maintain upstream progress.
•Do not operate a motorboat within 200 feet of a tow-float or buoy displaying a red flag with a white slash indicating a "diver down" except by use of sailor oar. In an emergency or if there is insufficient water on either side to avoid passing through the 200-foot safety zone, do not exceed the "no wake" speed. (Note: the burden of proof of the necessity of passing through the safety zone is on the boat operator.) See Diver Down Flag Warning.
•Do not operate or beach your motorboat within a designated swimming area.
•Do not operate your motorboat within 50 feet of a swimmer in the water except for boats towing water skiers.
•Some lakes and rivers have closures and public use restrictions.

If you are fishing, why would you go where you KNOW, (because you've complained about this before) there are boats and jets skis? The river is big and there are much better places to go fishing on the Yellowstone. The confluence of the Yellowstone and Kirtcher creek all the way past MC Pack, used to be good fishing. There are many other such places. You may need to get permission from a landowner.  The best way to eliminate stress from your life is to avoid going places where it my occur.

K.D, I am not complaining and if I were this is the place to do it. To many people like you that look at it as complaining and cry you a river well when you cant have your ski jet on the river or we cant use the dike accesses anymore then you will be crying a river, no joke intended cause I take our recreation sites very serious. I wonder how many people that trash the banks and consider this topic complaining actually do live in Miles City or are just here for a short period of time. Regardless I will continue to post the dis-respect and the nastiness that people leave behind on our rivers till I get the attention of the people that truly do care about our recreation sites.

Shame on you Richard. There you go being practical again.

I think they mentioned taking special needs children, and that may pose a problem at some other places. There are also spots that can be accessed near Kinsey.

Carl wrote "Its things like this that gets the unwanted attention of those that are looking at banning Jet Skies from the river".

Just who Carl are these people, or is it just you that seems to have an issue.
If you feel your fishing is being disrupted by jet skis's, then call the Fish and Game. They can issue citations on the river just like our local police can on the streets. Otherwise take Richards advice and find a quieter place to cast your line.

I dont think I should have to go else where to fish. I am not the only one that has a issue with this.If you will read one of the papers from N.D and I apologize for remembering the name of it however I will find it anyways they were the ones talking about banning jet ski's from the river which in return got the interest of our Fish & Game and others as well. I started this topic to inform others of what is happening and no its not only about my fishing, its about our rivers and our recreation that we are able to enjoy. Dont be scared to stand up to those that have no respect for the banks of our rivers, our rivers, and the beauty that they both hold. I have finally got the attention of the people that do care and can go foreward with plans to take our rivers and its banks back. To those that feel this post was about complaining, or more complaining, well dont complain or whine when you cant ride your jet ski on the river anymore . So just so I understand, keeping our river banks clean and not let them look like our local landfill, having people held accountable for their dis respect of not only those that are fishing on the banks but those that are on the rivers themselves who are fishing, sking, or just enjoying being on the waters in a boat, all of this is called whining or complaining.I think not....

1. I dont live or recreate in North Dakota.

2. Unless you have the ability to change the Montana state constition, I will continue to enjoy the Yellowstone.

Carl these are your words " I started this topic to inform others of what is happening and no its not only about my fishing, its about our rivers and our recreation that we are able to enjoy."

If you feel someone is being negligent then call the Fish and Game and have them cited.

Carl, I really hate wasting my time replying to your posts but...You really have no idea what you are talking about. Plus your posts are very confusing to read. You are quite wishy-washy in your stated arguments and have actually changed your view points when challenged.
The true sportsmen and recreationalists seem to get along quite well enjoying the rivers and great outdoors together.
Have you ever considered that maybe you are doing something on the banks of the river that is annoying other folks? Or is it possible folks just plain don't like you?
I certainly have one question for you. Do you actually have a job or do you just spend most of your time at the mouth of the Tongue? Maybe you are the "mouth from the Tongue"?

Reply to extreme conditions (#361156)
Wow EXtremeconditions, I am not sure where to start in responce to your very well written comment,so here it goes ,keep in mind that I dont have to respond but then I would be doing what so many others do and just ignore it. I do spend a lot of time on the banks of the Tongue either fishing by myself or with a couple of special needs people and if we are not fishing we are hauling trash by the truck load from the banks of the Tongue and Yellowstone. I would like to think that I do have a lot of friends that I have had the pleasure of meeting from our wonderful town and those I meet on the banks that are here on vacation. As far as a job , no I do not work. I am on disability due to a back injury that I sustained in a 18 wheeler accident. When I started this topic of our river banks and the trash, some of the operators of 4 wheelers having totaly dis-regard for those around them, some ski jet operators that should not even be on the waters, and some boat operators that have no respect for those fishing from the bank, and last but not least I was informing those that really do care about all of the above subjects that there is talk about banning ski jets from the river and all traffic on the dike. Along the way I was sharing what I have seen, the good, the bad, and the ugly. as I fish along the banks of our rivers. Also talking and listening to others that have concerns regarding our recreation areas. I have said that there is a lot of good people who know how to operate ATV's and water vessels as well as those that appear not to know. Alot of things that are happening either locally or nationaly seem to have a trickle down effect, which the baning of jet ski's for one could very easily make its way to here. Now if EXTREMEconditions just wanna ignore the things that are happening and just use the recreations that we have and not worry about anything that I have commented on, well thats your privledge, however there is some that wanna be able hand down to our kids and their kids and their kids the recreation that we are able to enjoy today tomorrow.

Lets be honest here Carl, I have lived here my entire life and up until now this subject has never came up. You come on here quoting something out of a ND newspaper and you have yet to call in anyone that is breaking the law and you think that jet skis are going to get band from the surrounding rivers because of what? Hear say? Because without documented reports that's all this is. I think it's great if you take others fishing but your not benefiting them at all if all they do is get harassed while fishing with you from shore. I know you don't like to hear to fish some where else but , there really is a WHOLE RIVER out there with banks on both sides to fish from, try some where new.

no no no Cubby they dont get harrassed because they are fishing with me. Thats a pretty bold statement. So your telling me to take a wheel bound chair person off of the sand bar and go fishing somewhere else so the idiot on the ski jet has that whole stretch of river to act like a idiot. Wow ,,, It amazes me how people can just ignore all the garbage that is left behind on the river banks, and the answer is stop complaininh, go some where else, never heard of it. Well thank god there is still people that care.

No Carl I didn't mention anything about talking them off roading in their wheel chair to go fishing. There you go again stating that the jet skiers are responsible for the litter and garbage that you are finding on our river banks. I can clearly see that you don't understand the coarse of action required to resolve this problem that your having so I will stop trying.
If you really are concerned about the river banks and all the litter then please by all means continue cleaning up after others, and to that I say thank you.

Visited with Fish and Game this morning, and they are not aware of any petition for banning jets skis on the river. My question is, are these jet skis really "harassing" Mr. Carl by being less than 75 feet from him while he is fishing, or is he just making crap up to make things sound worse than they are. I guess it is too hard for Mr. Carl to call law inforcement to make a complaint, but he can get on here to whine.

Goodmorning- I kinda forgot about this post till Cubby reminded me lol. When I post something here its not to whine or complain or ruffle any ones feathers, instead its to seek out information and or to do my part in preserving our beautifull Yellowstone River. I took a long look at my past post and as well as reading the comments. Before I address some of the issues that I spoke of, I wanna say that I appologize for any mis-understanding that may have of been interpritated by my finger tips. I did take some of yours advice and seeked out other spots to fish that are accessible for those that fish with me. I did talk to F&G and law enforcement and got the info needed when reporting certain things. The subject of Ski Jets that I brought up and the petition that I heard about was just that, ( I heard about). The article I spoke of was from a N.D. study that F&G was doing. Now the trash I talked about, NO it was not left by Jet Skiers or boaters, it was left by some people that either fish from the bank or use the banks of our rivers for partying. Again I say not all Jet Skiers or boaters are dis-respectfull as the the few we have seen. Back to the garbage, there is no way to get around it, we pack our garbage along with yours out. Now the EYE -OPENER, Before coming back to M.C, I lived in a place where there were lakes and rivers that were close in proximity (Flaming Gorge, Red Fleet, Steineker, Green River, and White River). Most of the recreation, (boating and ski jets) were done on the lakes and dams. and reservours. There was bank fishing as well, just bigger bodies of water where there was no conflict, along with boundaries. Here we all have to share the river in a way that everybody can enjoy their recreation as it should be. Just takes a little research and asking questions on where one needs to be when bank fishing. The Dream is still alive, Hooking the BIG ONE.
